Can someone post a picture of the stock speaker installed in the dash spot above the radio? I am mainly looking for where the bracket that holds the speaker screws into the truck. I would like to make sure I have it right.
HA! Been looking on and off at that since yesterday. It does not really show where the screw hole in the bracket is suppose to end up. When I put the new speaker setup in the hole just naturally shows where it wants to go. I just have a hard time believing that it is where Ford designed it to go. So I wanted to make sure. Just seems awkward.
Yeah, it is awkward for sure. Took a couple of days to work out the kinks in my back.
The front of the bracket slides into the slot, and a single screw at the back of the bracket goes into the dash support. I did mine last year, putting back a rebuilt original speaker. As I recall the speaker wasn`t tightly compressed against the underside of the dash. The magnet took care of holding the speaker in place. I found that removing my glove box liner as well as the radio gave me a better view.
So I took out my original destroyed speaker. But then got involved with fixing several other things I found under the dash. And now I cannot remember the orientation of that speaker bracket. I also ordered and upgraded dual speaker setup my LMC. What a piece of garbage. I have no idea what vehicle that "direct replacement" speaker setup was made for but its not these. So after getting disappointing customer service from LMC I took everything apart and tossed into the trash everything but the speakers. Made all my own mounting and housing to hold the speakers. It mimics the original speaker so the original bracket will work. But it looks like the bracket wants to drop behind the hole that gets the screw for mounting the radio bezel. Just seemed weird. And I don't remember thinking anything about it when I pulled it apart. I was hoping maybe someone had their radio out and the speaker still in place.
Yes. And mine is there. But I am talking about the bracket that slots into there and pushes the speaker up against the dash. That bracket screws into a location above the radio. I am looking for that location.
When you put the bracket in the slot, is there not a hole that aligns with the hole in the bracket? I would have thought there would be one where the screw was when you lowered the bracket?

Thank you

Are you in a hurry for this? I won't be able to get out to the shed/shop until this weekend, but I can check both of my C.S.'s. The '67 still has the OEM speaker in it (I think), and while I removed the bracket and speaker from my '68 when I took the dash apart, I'm pretty sure I know where it, and the hardware, are at.
I'm not 100% positive on this, as it has been a while since I removed the speaker bracket from my dash. Put the bracket in that slot towards the cowl as seen in the picture in post #6 and raise it up into position, I believe that the screw goes in the lip of the dash above the radio opening. Just above the radio opening there is a hole and a retainer clip for a screw to go in. Give that a try and see if it works. Let us know if that is it.

Here's some for you.
Here's an installed speaker in my '67. Looks like the speaker was either rebuilt or replaced (the truck came this way), but the correct bracket is there.
A shot of the backside of the dash of my '68 (I haven't replaced the radio or speaker yet):
Here I'm holding the bracket up in place:
And a shot of the OEM speaker and bracket sitting on the seat of my '68, arranged as if they were installed:
I had to make a new speaker bracket to hold a new speaker in my 72 after adding a new cd/radio. I bent it all up to hold speaker and mount in original position.
This was the original.
This was the new one before paint, but I dont have a pic of it installed.
Thank you Jim_K & 1browski! Those pictures answer my question perfectly. Especially Jim_K your very first picture. Shows the bracket being pinched between the bezel and the dash. I put the bracket on top of that dash flange and it didn't seem right. I see now it needs to be sandwiched.
