I need help with my 2002 ford f150. It has a 5.4L v8 with a 4r70w transmission. a week ago i got a p0705 code that called for a new transmission range sensor, I ordered it then tried to crank the truck and I had power, battery was full charge and the starter is good. I can start the truck by jumping it from the starter solenoid but nothing happens when i turn the key over. I then replaced the trs and it still wont crank. I found the wiring harness that goes from the top of the transmission to the speed sensor and the trs and to the o2 sensors and it had transmission fluid all in the connector and now i'm not sure if i need to take my entire transmission apart to replace the entire harness inside and outside or if there's a bigger issue. Does anyone know what issue could be causing this and how to fix it? I just replaced the transmission less then 1 year ago and I put a used transmission in the truck with about 100,000 miles on it. The transmission gave me 0 issues until now
Check the TR sensor PIDS
That will require a NGS or WDS for your 2002 model year
The TR sensor should have no trans fluid in the connector
If it does, just clean it all out with a few squirts of Brakleen and try it again
Luckily those transmission internal harnesses are still available for your 4R70W
The tr sensor doesn’t have any fluid in it. The connector that plugs into the top back passenger side of the transmission has transmission fluid all in it. I tried to clean it out with electronic cleaner and a rag but it still won’t crank up
The code does not call for a new sensor. It's a sensor circuit problem. Could just be a pinched or mouse-chewed wire or a bad connection. I dont know anyhting about the harnesses involved or where those things might happen. Just pointing out the facts of the code. Good luck.
The causes for this DTC may include:
TRS is loose and mal-adjusted
Transmission range sensor is defective
Bad connector at the external TRS, either loose, corroded or bent pins
Shorted wiring harness on the external sensor as a result of rubbing on the transmission linkage
Blockage in the internal valve body TRS port or defective sensor
The oil in the connector on the right side of the trans will affect the shifts and the converter lockup
That is the internal trans harness allowing the fluid to come through
I would replace that harness before the oil makes it all the way to the processor
Your TR code P0705 is another issue
Do the pinpoint tests for that code
A PID check is your friend if your scan tool will read those TR sensor PIDS
Using PIDS data you can extrapolate what the problem is rather that fighting through the pinpoint test steps
The pinpoint tests are going to have you down at that TR sensor with a DVOM and at that point you will be begging for a spare connector
I just hooked up an autel scanner and I’m getting codes “p0758” “p0753” “p0740” “p0743” “p0713” “p1702” “p0708” all of them have to do with either the shift solenoid circuits failing or tr sensor. Is that most likely the wiring harness that goes inside the transmission? Or would that be the Tcm itself failing?
Well, you better run through a few pinpoint tests for those codes but yes, the internal harness, if contaminated is a definite problem
The tests will be testing the harness as well in the process
Better plan on replacing it if trans fluid is coming through it
The TR sensor will have it's own tests
Those tests are also in the EVTM for that TR sensor IIRR
On the case connector which goes from the inside of the transmission connecting to the internal harness then goes through the case to the outside and there is an o ring that broke which caused the transmission fluid to come from inside to outside in the connector. I have to replace the case connector now but I’m not sure if that’s the only thing. Would that cause the issue I’m having or will it be something bigger than the case connector since fluid already got into the external wiring harness connector?
The internal trans harness.
If you do the pinpoint tests for the codes you have, they will have you ohm out the wires.
That will lead you to repair or replace the harness as necessary.
In the case of oil contamination that means replace not repair
