Looking at buying an older truck. It's a 04 heritage with v-6 and auto xmsn. Current owner removed cat converters and rear O2 sensors. What issues might that cause with engine function? It seems to run/drive OK on test drive.
My red-necky state has zero inspections. Pretty scary, but true.
Seller showed me the pictures of the cats he removed, and the screen/media were all broken up and in chunks. New parts $500+, so I kind of understand the cost vs value of truck. (in this state, anyway)
Thank you.
I just swapped a 278K mile 4.2 out of my ‘03. It’s never needed catalytic converters or never put out any codes indicating such. It wasn’t exactly running all that great the last few years, either. I just semi-retired it. I’m not the type to punch out cats and look the other way, though.
I would really question the engine’s health before buying if you aren’t planning to budget for a swap or remanned engine.

I would think the CEL is on? If so, you will forever be without that to warn of other stuff going sideways.
Also, did the owner say that he fixed the cause of the failed CATs?
if the price is right go for it man I always remove my cats and muffler and add cold air intake you really shouldn't do to much exhaust flow improvement without also improving air intake (more out put more in kinda idea but I don't know ****)
