Have been working on my 54 to get road worthy again and need to ask a few questions. This was the first vehicle I bought in 1972 at the age of 16 . I parked in garage in 1982 and have always said when I retired my #1 goal is to get it back on the road. It is all original with a 239 ohv and 3 on the tree. What I need to know is about my steering and suspension. I put new shocks and tires on it about 10 years ago when I thought i would get it going and it sat never moved in shop. As in life never got back to it again. I recently replaced steering gear box with a nos one I bought with many parts in the past for when the time came. I took it out around the block yesterday and notice it rode like a tank and was wondering a bit in the steering. Before I originally parked it i put new kingpins in and had aligned. My question is it possible for the shocks and tires setting on the truck for 10 years be bad causing some of my problems. Sorry for long post just trying to explain symptoms. Thanks

I have a similar story, I bought my 55 in 1977 when I was 15 and drove it for a few years after I swapped in a 390, in 1982 I took it apart for a full restore and modifications, then life got in the way and it basically sat in storage for the next 40+ years in pieces, just over 1 year ago I was retired and it dawned on me that if I did not put the truck together soon it would never happen so worked on it every day for the next 6 months and got it 95% done and driving it a lot and having a blast.
Saauven and lshort, show pictures of your long owned trucks, please. If you can old pics from the 70's and their current status.
I too, have owned my truck since the 70's, 1977 in my case. I was a bit older at 22. But it hasn't set in pieces unused. I had it licensed and inspected every year. It was used in all types of weather and was not garage kept. The longest it sat unused was from June 1998 to July 1999 when it was at the body shop.

I am sad to say that I have no pictures of my truck from when I got it, the best I have is the one where we pulled it out of a semi trailer in March of 23 and then recently
