Does anyone know if the frame is the same on a 95 f-250 460 2 wd as a 97 f-350 4 wd diesel? I understand the the front brackets that hold my Dana 60 are not on a f250, but if I where to remove my brackets and install on the f250 I'm assuming everything else would be the same.
Well I took the plunge! I picked up really nice no rust all original frame, Ill keep everyone posted on how the swap goes. I purchased an air hammer and solid rivets from McMaster Carr to remount the front 350 brackets. tested it out on a rear shock bracket on an old frame and it looks really good and original. the air hammer struggled a little with 3/8 solid rivet's so i got the bolt buster out and heated the rivet and wallah! I'll post some pics.
We'll the frames are not the same! see attached pics, f350 from engine cross-member to horn has an added section on the inside of the C-channel that is is welded and riveted in and the outside has an indent right after the cab mount that the shackle bolt goes through., none of this is on the f250 frame.
I own two 97 350's 7.3 & 5.8 and a 97 250 7.3 ALL are 4 WD and all have the same frame which is boxed in the front for added strength to support leaf spring mounts. The difference is in 2 WD which is the pic I posted that does not have the front boxed frame.
I was initially disappointed when I realized I got wrong frame but, but the frame I got is so nice it will be worth adding the front boxed supports. Clean frames are almost impossible to find as typically if the frame is clean so is the rest of the truck.
Hope this info helps.
Also I'm attaching pics of the solid rivets I installed on the rear shock mount bracket to frame. Air hammer was expensive $488 6104A43 + rivet setter $37.36 6104A57 from McMaster Carr.
This is the frame I'm abandoning because just too much rust, for you guys that are not familiar with a needle scaler it works magic on heavy rust, the pics I posted of the front frame is how this area looked prior to needle scaling. Rivet 1 was my 1st attempt and I slipped holding the air hammer which imprinted the half moon impression in the rivet, 2 & 3 you can see the improvement. The black paint is Pour-15. I resized these pics but I have a feeling when I post this they will revert back to full size. if anyone can explain how to reduce pic size i would appreciate it.
