Identifying Distributor gears
I'm planning on replacing the 302 in my 81 F-150 with another 302 out of a 84 crown victoria. The engine in the CrownVic was Throttle body injected, so I plan to use the distributor, carb, etc., from my trucks engine. I've heard that the distributor gears varied from cast iron to steel in different years. Would my trucks distributor gear be compatible with the crown Vics engine? Plus, is there a way to tell the difference between cast iron and steel distributor gears by looking at them?

you will be fine useing the distributor out of your old motor. I had a hard time with this similar ? but looking at them i couldnt tell a difference. you should get a new cam for that 302 your putting in. because the cam in it now is taylored to a car. Not a good setup for a 4000lb truck.
