Ok, here it is and it drives me nuts. My 2024 speedo is off by 1 mph as compared to gps speed from Waze, Google maps, Apple maps, or speedometer apps. This truck has just over 5000 miles on it.
The odd thing is that my 2020 was the same way, I though it was tires and when I replaced tires it was the same result.
Interesting but what is the cure to make them match?
Speedometers are inherently fast on most cars. Serves a couple purposes and Honda even got in trouble for it at one point. It will give you a little buffer as you won't be going as fast as you think you are, but then you'll also rack up miles quicker which means sooner service intervals and warranty expiration.
When I put on the new MT Baja Boss tires and went to 305s, the little increase in overall diameter has put mine almost spot on with the speed signs and Google maps.
Not taking OP seriously as driving him nuts because the post wasn't started with a dollar amount paid for truck. Only guys paying near and making us know they paid a $100k complain about trivial items.
speedometers are never that accurate unless you want to pay someone to certify it like the police units are.
there is always a 1-5 mph variance +/- which is why you don't normally get pulled over for doing 5 over the posted limit..
Only 1 mph is extremely close to accurate. But then, you didn't say at what speed it is off by 1. If it is off by 1 at 10 mph, that's 10% error. If it is off 1 at 100 mph, that's 1% error. The error should always be noted as a ratio.
An error of 5% has always been very common across all brands, and always on the slower side. Reasons already noted above.
