I've got a 2004 Expedition with the 16V 5.4. I've got it apart to fix some electrical issues and was under the dash and saw a black rectangular plug with several wires to it. I'm assuming that's where the brake controller would plug in to use trailer electric brakes and such.
So I'll throw this out to the collective. What all do I need to turn my 4 prong plug to a full 7 prong. The plug is on the rear, what do I need to add to put it in service? Controller obviously. What about adapters?
Same era, different vehicle. The Excursions came with the 4 pin and 7 pin plugs on the rear hitch but no factory Trailer Brake Controller. To add the electric brake function to the 7 pin plug we had to install an aftermarket TBC. I bought the Tekonsha Podigy P3 and the Ford wiring pigtail (from Tekonsha) that goes from the P3 to the plug up under the dash, ours plugs were grey on the big wagons. Once plugged in and the TBC was mounted it was totally plug and play. I’ve had my P3 for almost 14 years and over 85K towing miles, zero issues and works great!

Thanks, that's what I needed to know. I worked on a Chubby truck once and I kept having to find more parts. This Ford and Dodges seem to be fairly simple to adapt.
