I'm looking to get my first truck and have been looking at mainly obs trucks but I came across a 2012 f150 FX4 with a 5.0 and 79k miles. What kind of reliability or problems should I expect from it? I have heard some not so great things about the early 5.0s and the trucks of those years.

I got 300k out of my 2011. I loved it so much I bought a new engine and transmission instead of getting a new truck when it started knocking. I love my 5.0, great engine if you keep the oil changed. I would not bat an eye at 79k miles assuming it hasn't had any problems.
The biggest problems I have read about on these is variable cam timing. My understanding is running good clean Motorcraft 5w20 and filter leads to a much lower cam phaser failure rate. I have never known of anyone having the cam phaser problems personally, but the internet is full of stories. My take is this though, bad news travels better than good news on the internet. I would also think that after 79k and 12 years, any factory/design flaws would have surfaced.
My son in law has a 2011 or 12 FX4 with a 5.0 with probably close to 400k and no problems to speak of. He also has a gen 1 in his mustang and loves it.
I've got 230K on my 2014 . And am seriously considering going the same route as Lee-Hogtown. Repower it vs Buying new at $70K+(to get what I have in my XLT)
I have a 2011 F150 Lariat SuperCab with the 5.0 and it has 139,000 miles on it, I am the 4th owner and I got it at just over 90K on the odometer and I have not had any engine problems, It runs smooth and strong , I love the power curve and the sound of the 5'0, I have heard that some of the ecoboost models have more torque but I still love my V8

Where is this truck located? Not Sullivan, MO I hope, if so,run!
I looked at one last week identical to that, beware of the frame. Cause everything from the front bumper to the rear trailer hitch was rusted heavily with the hitch flaking off pieces when I touched it. the rest of the frame and suspension creaked like it would collapse on us as we raised and lowered it on the lift.
Other than that best of luck! I'm still looking between a 2011 King Ranch and 2015 XL. Yep big diff, but.....
Hello everyone. I am new to the forum. I have a 2013 F150 with the 5.0 and have been very pleased with the truck. Now with 190,000 miles, still runs and drives great.
Just bought a one owner 2011 F150XLT super cab with the 5.0 with 222k miles not too long ago and everything running perfect, except the left rear door ajar broken wire issue. Will fix that easy though.
