This is exactly what my truck is doing... How long do you think you could drive with this noise. I use my truck for work and I have a few jobs that I need to get done with the truck. Do you think; I could get away with using it for a few days upto a week? Also, should I spray with white lithium grease?
OK, First post. Be Gentle, Have a "growling" noise which goes with the MPH from about 30mph down to stop . First mechanic said it's probably a front bearing ($$!!). After much driveway diagnostics I have it zero'd in on center bearing. Truck is up on ramps, rear shaft out, (u-joint good), bolts to bearing bracket loose. Now to the end yoke nut.....What size socket? The set of impact sockets I have goes up to 1-1/16" (too small) I am going to buy a socket but would rather get the correct one.....SAE? Metric? ( why do they mix them now anyway?)
Great site BTW already learned a bunch

"End yoke nut" what do you mean... the nut on the pinion at the rear differencial, or the nut at the transfer case (asuming you have 4x4) ?
It's the nut that holds the yoke onto the front section of the main drive shaft. It has to come off to replace the center drive shaft bearing.
I figured it out. it's a 1-5/16" but it didn't do me any good. Couldn't get it loose. not enough oomph in my impact tools so it's back together an off to the professionals tomorrow. Any ideas on man hours to complete?

Well there ya go, had I had a 2 section drive shaft, probably would've been more help.
