I just installed the front driveline in a 60 F100 4wd. What concerns me is the approx. 1/8" side to side play with the U joint caps and the yoke. The U bolts on the end caps aren't completly
on the end caps. Is this normal. My truck is a F100, but has 8 lug wheels and extra leaf springs. If I have a f250 suspension, are the F250 U joints a little wider ?
Measure the diameter of the caps you need- there are a few variations - and then measure across the yoke inside the 'keepers' or nubs that the caps sit against. Measure both yokes. This will give you the length of u-joint you need. Find a parts man that will help you sort out what you have. With those measurements you should be able to get what you need. They even make u-joints with different size caps for certain applications.

a side note on "real parts man" (or women), usually are not found at Shucks, pep boys or autozone....
most those guys were delievering pizza last week...
my local napa store, i usually go in either at 9am till 1030 or 130 to 3pm ( this is there quietest times, so they can take a little more time with my wierd part searchs)
THere is basically 2 u-joints Ford used, 1 was the same size on both sides and one was bigger on one the sides. C3AZ 4635-G was the smaller and C3AZ 4635-H was the other. Napa can cross those 2 numbers and get you thier equivalents. Match what you have now and get the bigger of the 2.
It sure sounds like some where along the line it has had some 3/4 ton susp parts installed. I don't remember ever seeing a 1/2 with 8 lug wheels but I also don't play around with 4 wheel drive. You may want to tell the parts guy about the 8 lugs also when you ask about the u-joints.
