410 Swap

I may be able to get my hands on a 410 motor for my 73 F250 with a 360. Am I correct in assuming it will essentially bolt right in? Same mounts etc

Some early FE's were different. what year is the engine? I believe mainly it was 352's that had a different bolt pattern and a few other differences.

410, if it was born a 410, was '66-'67, so it had the later motor mount pattern. Same as the 360.

Check flywheel and balance. I'm not clear on that and can't search it out at the moment.

I’m told it’s a ‘66. I’ll need to look into more now that I know it’s a viable option

'66 should be fine. it was the first few years that were different.

Awesome.
The 410 uses a 428 crankshaft and harmonic balancer.
Those two parts are different from the other FE engines.
The crankshaft is externally balanced unlike the 360.

A 410 is a 390 with a 428 crankshaft and its own pistons.

Pickup 390 2V pistons are 410 pistons. Not difficult to get.

Sourcing a flywheel for a manual transmission is the hard part.

Summit Racing has manual flywheels, they are 428 flywheels. Hays Billet Steel 428 Flywheels 12-242

410s make a great engine for these old Highboys.

I hope your 410 comes with its original valve covers. They are hard to find and can get pretty pricey.
People call them either lightning bolt of pent-roof valve covers.

I have two sets of those covers. One set lived on a 352 I put together in high school, got transferred to the 390 that replaced it when I was in college, and now lives on the 390 4V in the 1971 fencing/plow pickup here on the ranch. The other set my dad had chromed and they are hanging on his shop wall. I still have, like you, an OEM 410 air cleaner lid too.

Dad had a 410 in his '74 F250 for a while and sold it to his cousin who put it in his '76 F150. But then again, I think dad's on his 7th engine in the pickup he bought brand new because he gets bored. Started life as a 360 (4x4), went bigger, smaller, auto to manual and back again a few times. He's had a 460 and C6 in it for about a decade now. He's going to be 78 and I don't think he'll be swapping again.

I bought mine off eBay, they looked new but I can't swear to it.
Not even a hint that they had ever been bolted on to anything, not even the tiniest mark from a lock washer.
I paid $300 for them.
The air cleaner is after market. I bought the Marauder 410 4V stickers are licensed reproductions.
I bought them off eBay too.
I found the 410 in Co Springs. It was rebuilt in 1972 and never started.
I'm very pleased with the way it runs.

Off topic, but thanks for that pic of your engine bay Rubi. I just decided on how I’m going to route my heater hoses. Looks great.
