Coolant draining for my 4.9. Engine

Hello all, I have a 1983 ford f150 with a 4.9 engine, previously had a 240. We had the 300 rebuilt and now back in the truck, add coolant and then started hearing a leak coming from the hole circled in blue in the pic below, now on the 240. I have a pic of it and it has a plug in it. Can I just plug this also? What is supposed to go there? This is an 1987 4.9 300 in an 83 ford f150. The temp gauge to my knowledge is up in the left rear circles in red on the pic and I installed it there on the new rebuilt motor, but I did not see this hole and do not know what this hole is, except coolant comes out when we fill the radiator. Any help would be nice. I’d like to know if I can plug it, and what is supposed to be there and if I need that? Thanks y’all see pics. Also does anyone know the size plug I would need?

Are you talking about the top picture that has the leak? If so it looks like there is a plug in there and there is a hole in the center of the plug where some sort of a drive fitting should fit into to remove the plug. I can't tell what shape the drive to remove the plug should be. But anyway if you are talking about the top picture I think you need to remove the plug in there and replace it with a good plug.

Where do you have the temperature sender?
The blue circle is where the sender should be.
Don't know what the red circle is?

The top picture is the engine before it was rebuilt. That engine is complete clean now and fully rebuilt. I am talking about the plug in the center, I placed a new plug there on the same engine and no coolant leaks, I was just making sure it is supposed to be plugged and some sensor or something shouldn’t be going in there. Do you know what goes where that plug is or is it just supposed to be plugged.

The red circle is where the sender for the temp was, I put that sender back in there, but the blue circle just had a plug in it before the rebuild, not it had nothing so I put a plug in it. The temp sender switch goes where the red circle is from what I gather but I could be wrong. I’m not sure so I’m trying to figure all this out. Almost time to start it up and just finishing the final kinks

Yea I saw your post, the blue circle is a picture a temp gauge sender. I was told it went there so that’s where I put it. Where the red circle is I placed the temp sender, where the blue circle is there was nothing. So what should I do put the temp sensor where the blue circle is? If I do that what goes where the red circle is?

I was wrong where you have the leak a plug should screw into that hole.
Here is a picture of my gauge sender

I cant get picture of the plug as it is behind the EFI manifold.

I did not realize how dirty that side of the motor was
Guess I will have to get after it when it warms up. The other side is not that dirty.

Hey Dave, this is ours since the rebuild. It was that first pic I send but this is it now. It’s in the truck now of course, but a heck of a clean job. It was an EFI 87 300, but I used the old stock headers and converted it back to a carb

Nice looking motor mine looked that good when I installed.

I am also running the factory Carter v1 carb and EFI EXH manifolds like you and love it.

After mine was on the road it had a oil leak that I had a hard time finding.
The oil pan side cover & valve cover gaskets were all replaced before install but still had a leak
After a few more motor washings I found the top of the timing cover gasket was missing and only showed up when the RPM was above idle.
Since then the all the gaskets I replaced weep and I got to keep tighten up the bolts.
Motor also has over 28K miles in 4+ years it has been on the road so it can be a little dirty.
