I've got a 2000 Mustang with the 3.8 and have yet to be embarrassed by anybody in a Civic. A Mustang V6 will hold it's own against many a Civic, unless the Honda driver has really hopped up his engine, and even then, a stocker V8 would have trouble against the Civic. The V6 can be upgraded for small change and still keep the insurance low.
The driver is the single most important element in how a vehicle performs. A stock six cylinder Mustang can beat a V8 Mustang for a good distance if the V6 driver knows what he/she is doing. No, I don't mean straight line acceleration only, I am referring to a curvy overall route say, through the mountains or along the coastline.
All of that said, we bought our V6 for insurance reasons. If we could do it again, we would buy the V8. The sound of a V8 Mustang running performance mufflers just can't be beat!
I agree the 4.6 is the best motor offered for the Mustang now. I do however thing they should upgrade from that to an even more powerful motor to stay up with the Z06 and the RT-10
Why use V-10s it appears that a small block V-8 is all you need. For example the Ford GT with the 5.4L V-8 is puting out the same numbers as a 8.3L V-10 Viper. I think it also goes to show you what motor company knows how to build motors.
I think yall would be suprised if Fords sixers. For the ranger, the 3.0 and 4.0 perform exceptionally well. In the mustang and F-150, teh 3.8 and 4.2 (3.8 stroker) is a killer. anyone with a 5.4 150 wanna race my 4.2 5spd? If we are stock for stock I guarantee I can and will beat you every time. Take a look in the 42 forum, we have guys with only a few thousand i.e. 2-3500 are knocking over 4 seconds off their times. and the 4.2 is only a stroked 3.8. serious sixers upgrade their 3.8s to 4.2s with the cam crank, and intake. They are nothing to mess with, and considering teh rev alot quicker and are alot lighter.
True. If I can be done it should be done although the V-8s are usually priced much better. Compare a Viper to a Cobra Mustang.....the price difference is somewhere around $50,000
I guess I have nothing against the v6 Stang models...but, awhile back at the local Sonic, I happen to see a white Mustang with a real nice, okay, make that distinctive...sorta a Ricer ground FX kit. Look behind the darn thing to see two humonguous exhaust tips....on a v6 car!
The only 4-banger Mustang I'd have ever owned would have been an SVO. Those babies would RUN AWAY from just about any GT. And that was on a hot day. Nothing like cold weather to wake up a turbocharged engine!
The 4cyl mustang was a great car. You got 30 mpg and all the respect that came with owning a mustang. They also weren't bad on power. My cousin had one. It was the same 2.3 that was in the rangers.
If I'm not mistaken the stock 3.8 mustang has 190 Hp. Thats not to shabby. Considering the 302 V-8's of the Gt in the 1980's only had 190 hp. A stock v-6 stang will walk a stock 2004 F150 with the 5.4L.
There is this guy in my neighborhood that has a really riced up Mustang. First off it has a V6 engine. The guy put a body kit on it, he put those see through taillights, he put Gt badges and wheels on it, it;s full of neon lights. The retard thinks it's fast. He goes around town squealing tires around corners!!
This if for anyone out there that are tired of seeing people drive around in V-6 mustangs that think they are bad @$$s. The motor is an insult to the heritage of the Mustang and it takes away from the car's history and glamor
I agree totally. Although most of the V-6 Mustangs you see have clueless teenaged girls behind the wheel. I guess they think "cool I have a Mustang" but don't realize that its a low performance turd. Those girls need to be learned! And every now and then you see some dude driving one. His name is probably Elton or something though...
My buddy down the road has a 98 v6 mustang with an automatic and I'm gonna give it to that engine, it certainly has some *****. A cousin of mine has a 99 v6 with a 5speed and it was also pretty cool. and somehow a substitute teacher for our school made his v6 mustang sound freakin sweet! I would have sworn that it was a v8. I'm not gonna go knocking on those cars at all.
