Replace your injector o-rings, get a quality tuner, and call it a day. Injectors may last another 250k+ miles.
My concern with replacing the o rings is they have internal o rings too, I can't imagine the internal ones would be far behind the external ones. But if I'm wrong I'd love to save the money.
If you’re still stock tuned then just adding a Hydra will really make you smile. I would lean towards staying with stock injectors for a few reasons.
1-just a Hydra will rock your world.
2-they’re quieter and this is your family Excursion.
3-stock injectors use the free library of Hydra tunes
Now, I’m not sure if I’d swap them out or just change the Orings. Are they showing any issues?
A set of cheap bellowed uppipes and a KC Balanced Assembly (or KC Turbine with Riffraff Wheel) would be where I’d spend the extra money saved from not buying performance injectors.
Thanks I did the bellowed uppipes in the fall, keeping it stock does sound like the smarter option.
Not to pry but do you have a budget in mind? I’m a single shot fan so 160/0’s get my vote. Those paired with a good tune and possibly a turbo upgrade would be nice. That said……..it’s not cheap. Also you might want to look into replacing injector cups at the same time.
Without reading through the whole thread, I'll cast my vote towards keeping stock injectors too. Just adding a chip for power modification is sufficient for that additional degree of power for making that big hill climb more bearable. All I need on my truck is the 25 HP Towing tune and I hardly ever have to even shift down. But I do have a 4.88 rear axle, so the engine is always wound up already. With 3.73 gears, shifting down in mandatory, but you'll quickly see how much better it is at pulling that trailer with just the chip added. And you won't have to worry about eco-cops pulling you over for that black cloud you just laid down with big injectors.
On my 00 I just went with stock rebuild injectors, haven't even put a tuner on it, and it does great empty or towing the key is to get everything running 100% the smallest boost leak or exhaust leak will cause low power, low fuel pressure will cause low power, weak HPOP will cause low power, so get it running minty first.
Like you I didn't want to loose reliability and stock is the only way to achieve that.
My injector o rings are leaking. I have 250,000 miles on it. Replace the o rings or bite the bullet and replace the injectors. If I replace the injectors do I get stock replacements or do I go to a performance injector. It's a family trip vehicle and we tow an 8000 lb travel trailer. Any advice would be appreciated

What are your symptoms that point to leaking injector external o-rings? Black fuel filter? Do you have some ICP/IPR% data we could look at to see how the high pressure oil side is working? Good to get some objective baseline data on your rig at idle, normal drive, WOT and if possible, a stretch of hard towing to see how the rig is performing.
Like you, I have been towing an 8K travel trailer. My truck has 286K mile stock injectors, PHP hydra 25hp/65hp tunes, high flow muffler and a billet wheel. EGT/Fuel Pressure gauges and FORScan to keep an eye on things. I do recommend and have installed an upgraded HPOP (Adrenaline in my case, CNC Fab makes a good one too). Really like the whole setup for measurable power in mountain towing.
Getting ready to regularly pull 16K now, but going to start with re-gearing to 4.30's (running 33's, and need to fix the limited slip anyway) and keep the good manners of the stock injectors as long as possible. Pulling the heavy 5th wheel home 120 miles on I-5 performed remarkably well. These trucks are incredibly stable towing platforms. Your Excursion is a beast. Got pics?
