Looks like someone tried to steal the truck, 2002 F250. The key hole on the door was punched in and the ignition has marks on it and the black cap on the ignition that you use to turn the key was on the floor.
I tried to start the truck but the key won't twist. After about 15 minutes of wiggling, the key turned and it starts. I figured I should change the cylinder so I can start it when I need it to and I'm not sitting there wiggling and hoping it would start.
I cannot take the ignition cyclinder out. I can verify that the little ball underneath the steering column is pushed in (using a screw driver), the cyclinder moves out just a little bit (enough to notice) but stops there.
The key is in the ON position, I am wiggling it, even used a plier for more force but wouldn't budge anymore.
You got the right idea, I think its in off position you push in the detent on the bottom, which I don't think you can reach with the column cowl on, but you push it in and turn the key 1 click forward and then it should pull outward. Remove the cowl to be sure you're pushing in the right part.
