Is it possible change it without a press and not damage it? I have read conflicting information just curious because local drivelines shop want $100 to just do the bearing if I take the shaft out
I did mine on the F350 last year...no special tools needed. I noticed it needed attention when I was under the truck working on the front drive shaft. Now that double cardan joint...not sure I want to tangle with one of those again...
A grinder to cut off the old bearing (carefully not to go all the way to the drive shaft) chisel, hammer, and to install get a pipe that is the same diameter as the race of the new carrier bearing (center part) and a few whacks to press it in.
