Has anyone done a carrier bearing replacement recently. I was planning on just sliding the front of the driveshaft out to remove and replace the bearing. Can I reuse the metal strap that holds the rubber cover on? Any other recommendations? Thanks in advance,
Rob This metal band. Here is the section i want to pull.

I found that a quality/OEM Spicer bearing was something like $50 and that my local driveshaft shop would do the entire job with a new Spicer bearing for $86, so it was a slam dunk - I let them do it all. I believe some press work was involved and I just didn't feel like messing with it for the price.
Never did it myself, but I think you can reuse those clamps if you are careful not to mangle them more than necessary. If not find some CV boot clamps in the right size. Or even a thick zip tie. Not a worm clamp tho, the screw mechanism is too heavy and will affect shaft balance.
Mark the shaft and pinion with chalk. Reassemble in same orientation to preserve the balance.
I'm late to the party, but you absolutely can reuse the straps if you are careful as David said. I have done this a couple of times now with the cinch down metal straps.
Maybe this thread will help future readers one day.
