After talking and texting for 10 months, I finally traded vehicles with another guy. I brought home today, a 2004 Ford Expedition NXB. 199K but the Carfax showed the miles rolled back years ago from 90K to 70K. Why? I have no idea and if it was going to be a problem, it would have popped up years ago.
This is one of the older vehicles where a lot of little problems were allowed to build up until it was parked. Evidently it was parked a while as I have a bunch of mud dauber nests to clean out. Right now though, I've got two driveability problems.
#1, the cruise control doesn't work. No light comes on when I hit the on switch so I suspect either a blown fuse or bad switch.
#2, heat control is erratic. When I got it to turn on, on the 100+ miles drive home, it nearly cooked me.
Any ideas where to look for the issues solutions? This is a lot newer than I'm used to. The old gal drove pretty good coming home and the drive train seems happy. It has other problems, such as two windows not working, sun roof being difficult, various electrical connection problems and so on, but these are mostly routine. I've already ordered parts for some immediate problems like flex hoses not wanting to release. I think I'm looking at about 3 weeks to have a reliable daily driver.
For the cruise control, the light doesn't come on when you press 'on'. You press 'on', then the light comes on after you press 'set' to let you know the cruise is set. I have a 2003 Eddie Bauer with cruise buttons on the steering wheel. I use my cruise so infrequently that most of the time it doesn't work the first time I push 'on' then 'set'. I'm in the habit now of pushing on, set, on, set,...until the light comes on and I know it's set. I suggest giving that a try since it's been sitting a long time.

I tried all the combination of buttons while driving. Two things I plan to check are the fuse and the pressure switch on the master cylinder. The fuse for obvious reasons and the switch as if it has failed, it will have constant continuity. I'm thinking this might be the problem child. Continuity means it's telling the cruise you have the brake on and should disengage. Even though the brakes are not on and the brake lights aren't lit.
For personal vehicles, this makes #121. Most of those came out of fields. This is actually in better shape than most of them have been.
