My 88 ford bronco 2 4wd is giving me a problem. I drove it last night and it was fine. Then this morning I went to start it and it started ran for a second then died, the fuel pump is not getting power. I was wondering, that green box under the hood is a switch that can be reset, right? How do you reset it? And There are four wires going to the fuel pump which ones are power? In the shop manual there is a switch that is located on the toe board right side of the transmission hub and is said to be resetable, it has something to do with the fuel pump. Any answers to these questions would be great. Thank You
The one under the hood is the fuel pump relay. That is the switch the PCM uses to control when the fuel pump is one and off. It's not really "resettable"; it either workd or it doesn't.
The one on the toe board is the "inertia" switch. It's function is to cut off power to the fuel pump in a crash. It is resettable by pushing the little button on top. There's an article at www.ford-trucks.com that describes the inertia switch, and how it fails that might be good reading for you.
The four wires going to the "fuel pump" don't all go to the fuel pump. The fuel gauge sender is mounted to the same assembly and they share a connector. So the four wires would be 1) fuel pump power (same color as at inertia switch) 2) fuel pump ground, 3) sending unit power, 4) sending unit signal. A good manual should identify the wires for you; I don't have mine in front of me. If you don't have the diagrams, the ones at www.autozone.com might be adequate.
