Have a 220000 mile 01. Ran short of fall to tackle ball joints. New premium Raybestos calipers on all 4. New rotors on rear. Original rotors on front, not turned. We're doing nicely before, no evidence of warpage or uneven grab. I had one rear seized caliper that ate rotor. I also had evidence of dragging on right front.
Bleeding went poorly. Use a snapon tool to pulse ABS motor. Got a fair bleed eventually but system wss never right, a soft initial pedal and an immediate left right wiggle upon brake. I suspect the ball joibts snd possibly radial arm bearings are letting front go all over the place.
I have a hot rear hub on left.
I need to figure this out. Brakes far far worse now than before I started. A hose on rear cause caliper return issue, air in rear cause caliper not returning? Time is hard to come by and these repairs suck up weeks of no car. I also worry my wheel bearings are contributing.
I have fought with brake issues on my 03X since I bought it 2.5 years ago. I replace calipers and brackets at the same time. Rubber flex hoses don't last a long time either. It was suggested I switch to a synthetic caliper lube called AGS sli-glyde. Seems to be doing ok, although its only been a month.
The main problem I had with my brakes was the master cylinder, which was leaking into the booster but also had some orangey red goo in the piston itself. Sometiimes the brakes would release but if the goo held the piston they wouldn't.
