yeah the FX4 shocks ARE differant, I suspect stiffer. At 55 lbs I occasionally get the low pressure light, which I pretty much ignore..I may try going lower, thanks!!

RS9000XL adjustable shock, get the the ride you want.
"average" life is 50,000 miles, that is considered an "industry standardISH"
Save the receipt for Rancho's limited lifetime warranty.

But I am bias

Somewhat of a technical question here: What is the adjustment **** actually changing? Rebound damping, compression damping, both? And how does it accomplish this?

I’m sure Rancho is good, I’m on my 13th or 14th set of Bilsteins, on a host of different vehicles,

So if I have them and need to claim a warranty, you send me the new shock to swap out so my truck isn't stranded?

I did the same when I had 60 (not 60k) miles. I usually carry a heavy load and the oem twin-tubes are not up to the task.

Talking

It does both actually.
The way the "base" is designed it accomplishes that.
Keep in mind the 9000's is the first adjustable shock that did this and still does, I mean other do it now too. LOL

You work with where you bought them from. Most will ask for pics/etc to start the process and help you stay on the road.

No eBay please.

Man, all this shock talk has me wondering...
so the FX4 shocks are stiffer? just making sure if that is the case. if so, I should check out 5100s? I commute 99% of the time and they rest of the time - haul some sheet, tow some sheet, and drive to the backwoods target range for some family time.
I do need to check tire pressure tho. they are probably waaaay up there.
but here's the thing... i was thinking of dropping down to 17s or 18s (from the 20s). should I wait on shocks til after the tires? or just DO IT...?

TIA

The FX4 shocks aren't stiffer than the 5100's. The FX4 shocks are still an OE, low pressure, twin tube shock. It's questionable just how different they actually are compared to a non FX4 OE shock.

Until this thread, I had not seen anyone say the FX4 shocks were stiffer… in fact, many indicated that they couldn’t tell a difference between them and the OE non-FX4 shocks. If anything, it appeared widely speculated that there wasn’t any actual difference… well except for the description: “off-road tuned shocks.” Lol If I’m not mistaken, at one point the FX4 shocks did have a Rancho sticker on them, but even those didn’t seem like anything people were impressed with.

How many miles on those shocks by chance?
As mentioned these are not a stiff/firm shock.
Buy new shocks.

Agreed. Stock shocks are the cheapest thing they can put on the truck with an acceptable warranty rate as to not warrant anything better. Most people don't even know when their shocks are blown and happily rolling down the road on original shocks at 150k+ on the clock.

This thread is also the first time I ever see anyone say FX4 shocks are stiffer. I don't recall anyone ever prove or disprove it either way, but my butt-calibrated feel first time I drove mine with the FX4 package was it was quite soft, it's the spring that people feel and complain about when unloaded. Turns out trucks that can carry 3-5000lbs with tires pumped up to 75psi ride rough with just the driver in it. Imagine that.
