Tornado
A Couple of weeks ago Monsta asked me to experiment with my Tornado Air. I have a 2k 4x4 V10 Excursion and have run with the Tornado Air since I received it in the mail. It was recommended to me by my father-in-law, who drives a Buick LeSabre. Other modifications on my Ex. are the K&N Filter (highly recommend) and 50 series Flowmaster 1 in and 2 out ending at dual 4" chrome tips straight out the back.
I am reporting the completion and results of my first tank, this was done from fill-up to fill-up, I had 1/8th tank left, before filling, according to the dash gauge. This tank was without the Tornado Air installed. I went 366.7 miles, mostly in town driving, making a conscious effort to keep exceleration below 2500 rpm, I was moderately successfull. This was tough because I love the music created by a V10 through a Flowmaster. I refilled with 87 octane fuel from Walmart at 1.119/gal. I put in 35.972 gals, topping off the tank. This brought me to calculate 10.194 miles/gallon. The mpg on the overhead console reported 11.0 miles/gallon. I replaced the Tornado at fill up, I will report those results next time. I did notice a decrease in throttle response, and cruising rpm pick-up for passing with the devise removed, and subsequently these notable differences returned with the replacement.
I don't know the gear ratio on my Ex, would like to find out. Will certainly humor a response.
See ya' round town,

As for your ratios look in the front axle (it's easier to see) for a tag on the "pumpkin". It'll tell you whether you have 3.73's or 4.30's. Also, if you pull 68mph or so at 2000rpm in OD, I'd say you got 3.73's like me...
Thanks for the update!
BTW, if you want improved throttle response & passing pick-up, dump some 89 octane in it. I get it for the same price as your 87. Actually a penny lower!
To see the manufactures sight, logon to www.tornadoair.com .
I can't wait to here actual MPG #s from someone not connected to the manufacturer.
Hello All,
The results are in.
As you have read above I have been conducting an experiment per Monsta's request. I initially removed the Tornado Air from my intake and ran a tank of gas, this with a result of 10.194 mpg. My driving was conservative, attempting to keep rpm's below 2500.
I then replaced the Tornado Air on fill up last week, actually raising my hood at the gas station. I have to say I received some interesting looks while working under the hood of my beautiful Ex.
I was also concerned because the average miles per gallon on the trip meter was reduced, from 11.0 to 10.9. I filled up today, after traveling 287.4 miles, placing 27.036 gallons. For anyone wondering, I do top off the tank at each fill-up. This calculates to 10.63027 miles per gallon, showing an actual increase in the mileage of 4.1036672689%. I do want to add that I don't feel that I drove as conservatively as on the non-tornado tank. I also did not travel as many miles, mostly reducing the highway miles traveled, therefore reducing the chance of a greater average. The gas prices were climbing steadily and I wanted to fill up before they got any higher, today I filled up at 1.239/gal for 87 octane. I will keep track of future tanks and report any further changes.
I would also like to present an error margin of +/- (2/10)% on the final calculated mileage increase, due to topping off of the fuel tank for the purpose of round/convenient purchase figures, this in honor of all previous college stats professors.
Love My Truck,
Scott
P.S. It is good to have a forum in which to share my excitement and experiences with others who appreciate a good Ex.

Without Tornado, cost per mile is 1.239 divided by 10.2 mpg = .12 per mile
With Tornado = .117 per mile

Worth it? Scientific enough for us? Who knows...you be the judge.
Great report Scott! Kudos! Will I get one now. Probably not...I don't even know how much they cost!
BTW, your mileage sucks!
