I mean, really...
We've seen all of this before. What kinda dang fool buys a proprietary game system, knowing by now that next year it will be replaced by a totally different game system, and just about none of the cartridges are compatable with anything else?
WHY???
What would you do that for...
PC games are playable on any computer, it don't change every year folks!
How much space do you have in your closet (not to mention bank account) for out-moded garbage that gets replaced every year? Come on, now... Think about the future.
NINTENDO was a cool idea in the beginning. It died a clean death, and it's over with...
Ditto SEGA
Ditto Super-Nin
Ditto and etceta-ditto...
You can see what's going on, so why bother?
Cartridge game systems get old in a year and go away, as does the platform they play on - you then have to shell out for an entire new system. How much out-moded junk are you going to allow yourself to be sold????
I replace computer systems often enough. Do the kids a favor and save that cash for a PC in the first place! God knows they're going to need it for school anyway...
Chee!
- As if it were a revelation or something....

Very good point...problem you run into with kids, a lot of the more popular games of the time aren't available in PC format. There are lots of great games out there for PC systems, but some of the major titles, especially Nintendo spec titles (Mario, Zelda, etc) aren't available for PC. The Playstation 2 allows Playstation 1 games to be played on it...not sure if the next generation of Playstations will have this feature. Here we have a Playstation 1, Playstation 2, and a PC...the PS2 sees the majority of the game time. The average life span of a gaming console is usually around 3-4 years...the 8 bit NES lasted from about '85-'89, Genesis about the same amount of years. It's like computers, every couple of years new advancements come along that make the older system outdated. That's just technology. But very good point Greywolf...saving the $$ for a new PC would be a good idea.
I like my xbox. And I like my pc for some games also. The driving games for the xbox are really cool and the games like diablo and rise of nations are cool for the pc.
I'll stick with my PS2
the problem with PC games is they're basically designed so if you want to run the latest software you have to keep upgrading your PC
your typical console lifespan is 5 years
and if you want console level games on a PC you have to spend way more
when you buy a game for a console, you know its gonna work
on PC it may have issues you have to address beffore it will run
IMHO right now its between PS 2 and X box, camecube is basically for children
sony has way more software, and being PS 1 compatable is a big plus, but I think X box2 when it comes out should really rock
currently though I think Sony is on top
Personally, I have a Playstation, and I find the controls kinda tricky. I love the PC where you have many different options for controls. I also have a computer with the ***** to run most top of the line games and software, so that is not a problem. As for most popular games not being available, that is not quite true. They all come out in PC version either at release, or soon after. I'll stick with my PC.
Bigger B has a PS2 which has been returned, fixed, and replaced 3 times within the first 2 months we had it. He passes down his older systems to his nephew, whose parent can't afford stuff like that, so it works out.
Only thing I play on the PC is the card games that came with it. We spend too much time on here already, don't need to add to it.

I have a pretty cool steering wheel for the xbox.
Halo was out for the xbox about a year before it came to the pc, I think.
My pc is pretty good, but going down and playing test drive off road racing on a 36" tv is better than my 19" monitor for the pc.
i like both, but my ps2 has been around a few years, and still has cool graphics, and new games coming out, and for how cheap they are, they are a pretty good bang for the buck. i don't know about everyone else, but i don't need a new system every year just because its new and improved, i can wait a few years and get the rest of the life out of my system and then buy a newer one at a cheaper price because i waited and the price went down. by the way i can't wait for grand turisimo 4 to come out!!! i love that game. hopefully they add some old trucks and muscle cars like they did in #2.
I have played everything from atari to the new things
I still play my 8 bit Nintendo more than I play anythign else.
Its more fun to me
Last "new" system I bought was a Nintendo 64 and a Playstation, and a Dreamcast.
The dreamcast I got after they were obsolete, the 64 and playstation I got new
I dont even play any of those anymore... I played Gamecube a ton of times with my friends playing 4 player Nascar games
As for Xbox... I didnt like it and the PS2 I didnt like much either
the last system i bought was the playstation, i havent played video games since i was 15 and got my learners permit. and that was almost 2 years ago.
id rather play the old games, from super nintendo and sega. they were much more simple and they were original, thats what makes them good. but im not really an electronics type of guy so it dont matter to me.
PS2 is backwards compatable and cost less than the $1500 tag of a PC. I have over a 100 titles for the original PS and Now have 7 for PS2. With the PS2 I can play all 107 titles.
My PC hasn't played a single game I've loaded except "Driver" My PC is 6 years old and was top of the line in it's day.
At $40 a game plus PC upgrades, I'll stick to my Playstation consoles.
