h kreis,
I'd say the next thing on the list would be a cam. Once you have enough in/out airflow, a larger cam will do wonders. Since you have a motorhome, I would go with a torker cam of some kind. I like the performance of my Comp cams cam, but it eats distributor gears.

Thanks; I want to get a cam after i get the carb dailed in first, then I will try to find a cam that I can live with, I will see what clifford recommends. My motorhome is a Dolphin usually seen on a toyota chassis, mine is the only one I have ever seen on a f150 chassis, this is my first ford in 30 years so it is a learning experience, the truck weighs 5800 lbs

78ford100,
i found that carter afb has a 600cfm carb very cheap compared to most. i just got a crate engine from a buddy of mine that already has an rv cam. i am going to get the offy dp and an efi manifold from the local wrecking yards. my question is with this set up will i need to work the head (port and polish) or will a stock head suffice? do i need to put in better valves, lifters, pushrods?

Skelator; A port and polish never hurts but I dont think it is necessary on your engine unless you plan to go "full house" then the further yiu go the less street worthy your truck will become. I know some of the members might disagree but after building lots of hot engines back in the 50s and 60s that is my opinion.

I agree, a port and polish will not hurt you at all, especially on the exhaust side. I don't think it is necessary to change valves unless you are going all out. I've had no problems with stock valves, springs or rockers on any of my six cylinder vehicles. My setup has a stock head and it will turn way more than it needs to, I've turned it 5700 before on a completely stock lower end( i don't recommend it), so there's not really any major restrictions. If you have reason to doubt the lifters, its not a big deal to change em. I've noticed that hastings lifters are exactly the same thing as a comp cams lifter (hydraulic flat), so there's not really any need to spend huge amounts on names. If you already have the head off, you could plane (mill) it, to pick up compression.
