What are some your opinions regarding extended warranty's. I'm reaching the end of the 3-36 bumper to bumper factory warranty on my 2021 F-350 STX with the 445 c.i. gas engine and 10 spd. automatic transmission. Given the exorbitant and frankly outrageous repair costs in the event they are needed I've decided to take my chances to purchase an extended warranty. The purchase is obviously a bet in favor of our unit to need expensive repairs. The dealer nearest me is pushing a non Ford based policy. Their reason for the favor of the non Ford policy is the service manager's experience that Ford is getting stingy with what they are allowing to be covered and the non Ford policy is a bit more broad in their coverage and the possibility of the waver of the deductible. The price is within a few dollars of being nearly exactly the same. TIA.
Save your money and do repairs yourself. I bought new with warranty hoping for reliability or at least some competent people would take care of any issue under warranty. Ive run into neither. 2 times Ford techs have left tools and old parts under my hood. Once while getting some work done it created another issue that left me stranded for hours. Other times like intermittent issues, "cant duplicate the problem", So complete waste of time getting truck to the shop, then having to go back and pick up.

My experience has been the opposite. OTOH, I have always made sure I don't get a "Ford tech". I get the guy I know to do good work. IOW, I don't throw the keys at the Service Advisor (glorified appointment clerk) and hope for the best. The tech/techs I know will be doing it or we rebook. I don't ask "Where did you get good service at?" since that is irrelevant to me. I ask "WHO did you get to do good work and where is he?" and go to that place, looking for that person and that person ONLY.

oh ok. Next time i go to get warranty work done ill interview the techs and maybe have some tests for them first..lol. i dont know where youre at but around me it doesnt work that way at all and it shouldnt work that way at all. They should all do their job correctly or get tossed out.
Yeah warranty work from a huge company like ford, one should be able to throw keys at the service manager and come back a few days later with an expertly fixed vehicle. Not the customers job to interview techs for competantcy thats the job of the company.

Maybe you are different. IDK. I start out with something simple and watch them. After that, I get to know them. Tips and food helps. I don't give you a big job before I watched you enough to get a feel for how you operate. So yes, I "interview" you by seeing how you do simple jobs.
Yes, it is the job of the company but you pay in aggravation to palm it off to them. Your call but I want to know who I am working with.
I have very few issues with warranty and regular repairs using my method. How is your method working out for you? From your complains, I don't think it works by assume someone else takes care of the screening process and assuming everyone is equally fully competent and has a good attitude but you tell me.

I didnt have the good fortune of deciding what broke on my truck first so i couldnt exactly pick an easy job for them to see how they performed. which is actually a ridiculous idea anyway. Who actually does that?lol And even if i did i dont have the luxury of waiting around for my truck to drive into a service bay and watch the repairs being done. Ive paid others to do just that when i bought a new truck with warranty. And around here they dont let you watch techs work anyway. You cant even enter the service area unless you work there.
Just curious, do they feed you truffles and give you a Bentley as a loaner also?

I stand where I can watch you work, with binoculars if necessary for the first few times. I check over your work then I get to know the tech by requesting to talk to him. Again, if you choose to leave it to luck of the draw, well, don't expect it to be different from what you already have. Look at the quality of the workforce today and if you believe the company has that much choice, you are living in a different world than I am.
Again, if you're happy with the way things are working out for you, more power to you. I thought you were unhappy so I suggested something that has worked out for me.
Edit: I don't have to have a huge complicated job. I just do a brake job and I can see what you are like to get an idea. I see a lot of people just use a torque stick in a circular pattern. If you remount the wheels that way, I know not to visit you again. I have also requested to talk to the guy working on my car. One of techs that I knew that way at an MB dealership, when he quit, directed me to someone whom I would like to work on my car. After a bit of back and forth, we actually became friends. Again, IDK how you tried or how hard you tried but if I can do it, anyone can. If you can't, you aren't trying and you just want to do it the old way. Drop the keys off and pick it up without knowing who did the work. Today, it is Sam, next time it is Tony and after that it is John, etc. When it goes south, you blame the dealer, badmouth them and move on dissatisfied. Sound familiar?
I have been with CarShield for three+ years. Last year I had a major repair on my 2019 F-150 (VCT Replacement and a front axle bearing going.) Total cost of the repair was $5695. I had paid into CarShield $3700 over the three years. My cost for the $5695 repar was $100. $1995 savings. All I did was show the service writer the app, he coppied the info and called me later that day saying it had been approved.
Being retired and on a fixed income dealing with Bidennomics, I can budge for the $100 a month for CarShield, but, I will never have the money for a major repair.
When I traded that F-150 for my new to me F-350, I transfered CarShield to my new one. Same monthly price, same coverage. The deductible went up to $200, due to the diesel I guess.
Parallel situations since I can't find an exact situation. Not sure why it is difficult to see.
Yes, I too can do a lot of things but I prefer not to do them for whatever reason. Still comes under the "can not and/or will not" section.
Bottom line is that if you are unhappy because it isn't ALL going your way. Compromise isn't acceptable to you. I have never had a vehicle that has all the features I want either but unless I am BOTH willing AND able to DIY, packaging and some compromise is going to be the other choice. Kinda like buying a used car. You might not get everything you want but you also get a lower price.
It's difficult for a human with an average IQ to see due in no small part to the fact that by any rational standards it's meaningless bull****.
I certainly have compromised and have very little going my way regarding this subject matter thus I'm forced to spend money for things that I neither need or want but I have very little, to no choice. If I had my way without compromise I'd have a work truck with roll down windows, manual heater/AC controls, manual transmission, manual 4 WD engagement, manual door locks, an analog AM radio, vinyl seats that can be easily wiped clean, etc. I could go on but it's a waste of time. I've come to grips with how things are and I am doing what I must to keep things going in a general business direction that keeps the bills paid in full but I don't have to be happy about it. And yes, repairs are exorbitant to the point of outrageous. I would much rather not have to pay for outrageously exorbitant repairs on gadgets and junk forced on me that I didn't need or want to begin with. Sorry, but I can't make it any clearer than that.

Wah, Wah, Wah! Well, if you want to put it that way, I too am forced to pay for emissions crap I don't deem valuable. Further to that, I can't get what I want in my vehicles and I am willing to pay a bit more for it. Obviously, not enough to commission my own vehicle or build my own. I am forced to buy stuff that I can't totally want. Like I said, don't like what Mom cooks? Get your own food by either buying it yourself or cook it yourself. You don't want the latter options bad enough, eat what she cooks. Similarly, you don't want to build your own by commissioning it or DIY? You made your choice. Buy the package as is. No different that an election. You vote for Mr LOTE (Lessor Of Two Evils) and not the perfect person you want. Math is pretty simple for someone of average IQ to understand, no?

Just when I though I saw (read) it all...
Jesus dude...you're a stalker. If I worked there I'd call security or the manager and have you escorted off the property.
"First few times" Is that how you spend your Friday's? Just chilling in the parking lot stalking the mechanics every week with binoculars? Or are your vehicles that crappy that they are in the shop that many times? Not that you would even know what you're looking at, as you have no idea what the other vehicles are in the shop for....

I can't be in the bay but I can be outside. I was at a shop where I sat outside on a hill under the tree. I watched while he worked on my vehicle. I can look at the way he works which tells me enough about the worker. Like I said, I get burned a lot less than I used to doing it this way. Still, if you prefer to hand over the keys to "luck of the draw" and it works for you, good luck. It did not work for me.

I don’t trust any of ‘em, which is why I do as much of my own work as possible…even small stuff that warranty would easily cover. No stranger is going to care for your vehicle like you would.
