Hi Guys,
I am new to this board and would like to know about Fords extended warranty program. I am trading my 04 F150 for an 05 F350 PSD SC Lariat which I pick up on Saturday. Are the warrantys worth the money, can I get a bumper to bumper, and what can I expect to spend . Are they negotiable? Great board with a ton of info. Thanks in advance
You can buy the Ford ESP from any Ford dealer. The dealer you bought the truck from may or may not give you the best deal on the warranty. The cost of the Ford ESP is very negotiable.
When I bought my 2003 F150 FX4, I could buy the Ford ESP anytime before my original factory warranty expired. I wanted unto August of this year when I had 30,000 miles on it to get the Ford ESP. I didn't want to buy the warranty until I was sure I wanted to keep the truck past the original warranty period. The only penalty was that since I waited until after the truck was over 12 months old, I had to pay an extra $100 for the Ford ESP. I bought the Base Care which seemed to me to have the best benefit to cost ratio. There have been several threads on Ford vs third party warranties and the Ford ESP seemed to me to be the safest.
If the same rules apply (and I think they do) you have plenty of time to shop for your ESP.
get a copy of the warranty before you commit. i have a third party warranty (warrantydirect) and its bumper to bumper extended for 7 years or 100k miles. i havent had any problems but nothing would be better than fords warranty.
also if you're going to modify the truck read the warranty and make sure know the restrictions. nothing like spending 1 or 2k on a warranty and 5k on mods and having your warranty voided by a service manager having a bad day.
Just because you buy it at the dealer does not mean it is a Ford Warranty. I would never buy a warranty that forced me to go back to the dealer. I have found the dummest people in the Ford shop, they never find the problem the first time. I lok for a warranty that is accepted by other shops in the area and I always make sure it is a bumper to bumper 0 deductable. And yes many beat the Ford offered overpriced warranty.
this was my first aftermarket warranty with a "0" deductible. however it didnt cover diagnostics and it was one of the best warranty companies out there.
so far i've had a problem with reving at 20, 40 & 60 mph. i've brought it in twice already and they checked it twice and its still wrong. my truck is going to another dealer as soon as i get it back from paint.
i figured that out after i refused to pay the diagnostic fee after i brought it back the second time. they kept telling me they couldnt replace the tranny until they pulled a code which is bull. it was obvious something was wrong with it.
