The 10 speed does take some getting used to. It's almost like driving a CVT, you just push the pedal proportional to the amount of go you want and let it do its thing. Once you get used to it, it's awesome. I will say though that for being basically the same hardware, the "Allison" in the GM trucks is much, much smoother for some reason.
This is a legitimate question, really. I am a current Superduty owner, looking to get into a 2020-22 probably with a 7.3. I have been hearing from different sources that there are some issues with the 10 speed trans. Have you all noticed any more issues with these units that is more than normal?
Want to get rid of my 2015 while its still worth something.
This is my 2nd 7.3/4:30. No issues/weird sounds/chatters/clangs/etc. None....
This really cant be said any better. Buddy has a 6speed. Great truck. But you have to drive his waaaaay different than I drive mine. I had to learn the characteristics of the 10 speed. Now I would never go back. Love my truck so much!
IMO, there's nothing to "get used to" with this 10 speed... IMO, the people who programed this 10 speed just didn't do their job as good "as they should have". My 10 speed shifts buttery smooth, does a fantastic job in general... so... WTF... why am I not as satisfied as I should be...??? "It's the shift points"... as far as I can tell the only "difference" between "N" mode, or TH mode, is 10nt and 9th is locked out for longer and it shifts through all the gears... great... BUT, it should also shift sooner, much sooner... To NOT loose so much speed, and then it needs to try and make up the speed it lost up a hill... Fail, Fail, Fail... Other than that I find this 10 speed FANTASTIC, !!!
Economy mode, is OK for empty driving around, it actually does improve MPG...
I got a 2021 with the 10-speed and just got the truck back from the dealer; I brought it in due to erratic shifting. They came back with 9,600$ to rebuild it or 10,200 to put in a new one with no explanation of what they deamed the issue was, just that the transmission was junk. The truck has 95,000 miles on it, so they are not under warranty anymore. I'm still driving for now while I figure out what to do with it, most likely trading it in; some days, it is fine; other days, it loses power and even struggles to maintain speed on the highway intermittently for about 15-30 second intervals. I even had it stall at a stop sign on me. When to accelerate, it would try to take off from 10th gear Pretty disappointing for a truck that's just coming up on three years old. I'm guessing from my research it the bushing issue causing fluid pressure loss.

Yeah that's quite a bit past its power train coverage by miles, have you contacted Ford corporate to see if they can help since it is only 3 model years old?

There's a TSB (or is it a recall?) regarding the CDF drum on some model years. There is a bushing that can slide and cover some oil ports, leading to shifting issues. The fix is a new CDF drum with a different bushing.
You have to get used to it? or learn how to drive it? that's a new one to me. I just driver the Fer like every other vehicle I've owned (except for bikes) and just go. Same with my ole 2018 SD DRW & 2014 CTD DRW. just drive. no issues.
I have had multi 6 speed super duties but my current 2022 is the first ten speed, wish I had traded sooner, mileage up from my 2015 towing and empty. Towing 9-10.5mpg the 22 is mid 14 same 5W. Empty I never saw over 15 with the 2015, the the 22 get 17-18 daily riving and I have seen 22 on a long trip all highway.
Looking down and seeing 6th or 7th in town takes some getting used to. Several complaints on shifting issue and I have had none with about 25K on it right now, maybe 1/3 of the towing 14K 5W.
i ended up taking it to a local transmission shop who did the work for 5,300$ and it shifted like brand new again. They replaced the cdx clutch and torq converter and that was it. Unfortunately for me, i think I was early in having the issues because the truck a 21 with 96,000 on it i think Ford hasn't officially had to own up to the issue because i think it just start to become a common issue based on mileage. but i ended up trading in the truck after fixing it
