I'm now on my 3rd 7.3/10 speed. Granted, I didn't rack up a million miles on them. 22k on the first and 24k on the other that was just traded this week for a new leftover 23. But I've yet to see a problem.
After having had three 6.2/6 speed trucks I can say that I would not be interested in going back to one. I had no problems with those either. It's just more enjoyable to me on my annual vacation to not have a truck that screams in the hills when pulling a 7x14 enclosed trailer with 3 motorcycles, luggage, tools, etc.
100% agree, just left a 20 6.2 6sp for a 24 7.3 10sp, huge diff in feel and power.
I've got a 2022 f250 with the 10, and it's smooth, but when I'm towing it's a little rough shifting into 2nd and 3rd. I should probably go in and see about software updates - as I've never taken it in for any.
I will say, the exhaust brake for the 6speed seems waaaay more effective. but that 10 speed is really nice.
FWIW, I test drove a 20 two years ago, a 22 about a year ago and now own a 24. I did not notice any issues with the transmission shifting on any of them.
I have noticed that when the transmission is cold it will skip some shifts, but once it has warmed up and has locked the converter I haven't seen any skipping. I only notice it when actually looking at the display. If it wasn't for the display I don't think you could tell.
Maybe b/c I remote start the truck when it’s cold and let it spin for 2-4 mins, but I’ve never once seen my transmission skip a gear. It’s buttery smooth so far; I really like it.
No issues with my 21, Actually think it shifts better since I got the recall/computer updates (22EO4 ?) seems to shift much smoother. 24k on the ticker and shifts great with the 5er hooked up. Havent towed since I got the recall done but cant imagine it will be worse.
There seem to be two main mechanical problems with the early 10R140 at least one of which was corrected sometime in 2021. The CDF drum bushing slip was the issue that was corrected and the valve body leaking. issues to my knowledge were not. Also regarding software issues, some seem to have been corrected on newer models with the no gear skipping.
Tihs tends to happen at about 100k from what I’m hearing.
People can't learn how to drive a 10spd truck. It's not to be driven like a sedan. Hit the pedal, it works. Don't be playing around, don't flutter foot the pedal.
This is one of the most BS statements I've ever read regarding transmission issues. No offense. The 10R140 does have issues and it's been well talked about on various forums. I've had mine SLAM so hard that it feels like a dump truck hit me from behind. And there was no fluttering of any pedal. In fact, it was just letting off the gas coming to a stop sign. Then another time, I was towing our 7k RV and passing a truck 3/4 throttle. It down shifted so I could pass the truck and then after passing him, I let off and the Truck never shifted back UP, I had already slowed down and the engine RPM's were still sky high because never shifted back. It was locked. Finally, it got back to shifting into the correct gear. It's also hard to have dealer diagnose. because it randomly happens.
I honestly think the issue is in the programming of this transmission.

Not speaking for HeavyAssault but SOME people have had real issues like the programming stuff you mention (seems to be less in 2022+ trucks) but I do believe that many complaints on how the 10R140 operates are simply people being used to how the older 6spd work/feel and not liking or appreciating the difference. both my 2022 and 2023 trucks have shifted perfectly so a software or programming issue on some earlier trucks makes sense to me.

before I purchased my 22 I asked a friend of mine that is a 20 year tech at the dealer I purchased from about issues with the 7.3 and he said 7.3 bulletproof but a lot of complaints on the 10R trans. He said put it in gear and drive and you'll love it. He is 100% correct in my experience driving mine.
I too, have seen the same issues with the extremely hard shifting, and did not care for the 10 speed. In my 2020 super duty 6.7 L and also in my 2022, 7.3 L. Both were in for warranty work multiple times for the transmission. And never seem to make really any difference on what they did. Even though we have slow down recently, we were traveling across the country 15,000 pound fifth wheel and I do have a heavy foot. sometimes It felt like the transmission was gonna fall on the ground. The 22 gas the transmission was getting to the point where it felt like it was slipping sometimes. I have sold both trucks off since then. Not sure what I’m doing next.
Traded my bought new 2016 6.2, 4.3 CCSB F350 for my 2023 7.3, 4.3 CCLB F350. Only 5000 miles so no input on reliability, but performance wise, far superior to my 2016. Tows same camper much better, more quiet, more comfortable, love the cameras. I like the 10 speed. Engine stays in its power range. One thing Ford could have done better on was all the electronics. Give them a C on that.
