Yes, has happened before and will take out the DPF. Usually though a code has been set since the flow through the injector will not match the tables in the PCM. When the DEF is heated to vapor it turns into ammonia which causes a reaction with the SCR to convert Nox into Nitrogen and water. If it passes through as liquid and int the DPF it causes soot to stick that can damage the DPF. It would be injected at such a rate though that MTE would be 500 on a full tank. As long as what ever is injected is vaporized though, no damage can occur. It would actually help to steam clean the DPF with the high water output. My 19 barely uses DEF, but does clog up the DPF faster needed more frequent regens than the newer trucks, which saves on fuel.

Is there a code? I have seen a code in another truck for not using enough DEF, not to much. It was a clogged injector.

When I'm towing my DTE will be around 600-750

P2047 is an injector code for DEF. I don't think there is a specific code saying stuck open, etc. but mainly its a fault in the injector system.

I know mine is a 2022 and different than the 23, but I just filled mine Monday night. Gauge says 9500 to empty. It's my daily commuter (30-50 miles a day) and I pull a light trailer occasionally. In the 49,700 miles since new, I have maybe put in 25 gallons of def total. I top it off when it gets to 1/2 or before I go on a long trip.

You have quite a load from your picture so I am not surprised at your high DEF usage. My 23 gets 500 - 750 mpg empty and 330 - 430 towing a 7K TT. My truck regens about every 500 miles no matter what the % is, unless I am towing on the highway and then DPF is 10% or less.

Ok, so a little update. We3 hauled our truck camper this weekend. Just the camper at 4900 pounds. I start getting the DEF warning at 65% full and at 52% full I have 198 miles to empty. Is there a possibility that the engine is not using enough EGR and therefor using more DEF?

Enough EGR???
DEF injection and the SCR system are there so that the engine requires LESS EGR!
You don't want it to use more EGR, EGR just contaminates the intake and turbo with recirculated exhaust.

I know how EGR works. It never hurt my previous 6.7's to use it. Sometimes it isn't very easy to fill up the DEF every 400 miles

Filling up the DEF tank every 400 miles is not right. Even if you're hauling heavy 100% of the time, that range is not correct. The entire system works in tandem - yes, they are separate systems, the EGR, DEF injection, and the DPF. Something is wrong somewhere.
Have you had anyone that tows heavy jump in with either a 2023 or 2024? Surely there are some hotshot guys out there, car haulers, etc. that can weigh in.

I think the new trucks have a cat pee fetish or something was wrong with my 2017. I filled the def tank three times in the 6 years I owned it. My 24 has 400 miles on it and burned half a tank.

With the upcoming new proposed EPA regulations set to take place in 2027, the trucks will consume even more DEF. The proposal I've seen will have 2 DEF injectors both pre and post SCR. Having said that I do prefer more DEF and less EGR.

As soon as the warranty is out, and a retailer outside of the states has a delete kit available, all of this junk is coming off.

I agree, would much rather have more DEF consumption for a reduction in EGR and possibly less DPF soot. Regens are much more effective as well. It's a moving target and the manufacturers are trying to stay as compliant as possible.

2023 f350, towing 12-16,000 pounds half the time. half time empty(1000 pounds of tools) 2750 miles to a def tank , pretty consistent.
