Wow I hated the Falken Wildpeak AT3's so much I had them removed under the 1-month warranty and went back to Nitto. The Falkens were incredibly smooth and super, super quiet, and sticky in the rain, but they were super busy on the highway and sucked fuel.
I have 2 trucks and the other has Nitto's. I noticed if you shook the wheel there is a delay in response with the Falkens. You could feel it in the wheel and in the seat as a lack of tail wag versus my Nitto's that are almost instantaneously more responsive. It was very noticeable.
With the Falcons, when I would make a correction to the wheel there is a slight delay, then it moves in that direction, so to get back to center you correct again and again. On new pavement with no wear in the tire path, Falcons were fine. On worn or pitched asphalt the Falcon's wandered.
My mileage also suffered and I am not sure if it's the weight, Falkens are heavy, or if rolling resistance. Maybe that is part of what makes the ride so well. I lost at least 2 MPG. It was unbelievable.
I wanted to like the tires for the ride and quiet but the loss of economy and mostly the busy feel was too much. My son drove both trucks for a couple hours and had the same response as me.
I haven't experienced this at all with the Wildpeak AT4's. They are big tires, and they are heavy, however I haven't experienced the same mpg loss that you did either, which honestly surprised me. I went from the stock GY Wranglers, which were listed at 52 lbs to these larger AT4's which are right at 69 lbs. To be honest, I can't tell a loss in mpg's at all, and I keep up with every drop of fuel that goes into my truck, and hand calculate it. There has not been a trend in lower mpg's and I am at 20k into these tires, so I don't expect to see that change. As for the responsiveness... they are much better than the GY's, but I wouldn't say that they are super responsive. I attribute that to the steering from the SD though...
