got a lead on a 70 e200 supervan that used to have icebox stove closet bed with louvered windows. got a 302 with a automatic trans. front has 8 lug which after looking into was on the e300? question is what should i expect when trying to find parts. body is clean no damage or rust. inside gonna need to be rebuilt missing rear seat/bed. getting excited to have a van project after going thru my 79 bronco for last two years and turned it from barely running driving to being a daily. anyone have any tips about what to look for or things to know about these vans ? thank you
You are choosing one of the most difficult to find parts for, steering box, frame rusts where it mounts, box will likely need rebuilt, best look for a reputable place to rebuild it, if its power steering god help you, its hydraulic assist, those parts are rare, require a rebuild if you can find someone who knows how, radiator, good luck, must be custom built, there is no replacement off the shelf, what is available is too small. Unless you have a lot of money and fabrication skills I suggest you pass, believe me, they are far from cheap to refurbish.
thats what i was thinking. had to go look though. bronco loved the trip ran well and van owner was blown away i drove it to check out van. too bad too its a conversion van from red e kamp e300 dana 60 rear ? started up and ran smooth. no rust minor body damage patina for days.
Find a bell crank before you buy the van
Make it a 4x4 and you will never need a bell crank or any of the other unobtainable front end parts
Rest of the van you can keep on the road forever
Body parts are an issue too, how is that holding up
Things like tailight lenses and bezels etc. are getting hard to find on all those old velicles
Glass all but the windshield might be real difficult to find but is out there
I drove one for years till it was hit head on, I had a bell crank bolt put aside, was lucky it was low miles, didn't need it, sold it overseas, body panels are reproduced, windshield seal, you might get lucky and find one that seals, mine never did, gas tank, there aren't any, you get one custom made or make one fit, don't expect anyone on here to help you find one, even if they just bought one, its a secret, I had been looking for friends with no luck. Facebook has a group who own them, will help find parts, best place to look for anything.
Rare parts makes most all the front end parts for mids. Not sure lead time and they aren’t cheap. The “bell crank” isn’t difficult to rebush at your local machinist, I picked up some manganese bronze for the job but ended up buying new from rare parts. As noted the steering box and all front end parts will likely need replaced.

I don't see why someone can't machine a bell crank, make a bronze wrap, turn down the original bolt to fit it in.

The gas tank actually is available at EBay. Around 500$.
I have several of these vans, a 72 E300 Shasta camper, a 73 Quadravan, a70 e100, and a 71 e200 in pieces.
I am floating around the idea of selling my poptop roof I have? First winter with Quadravan 72 Shasta 72 Shasta Quadravan paint scheme in progress
I searched for years for a gas tank, then my accident, but I continued to look for my friends, I remember the JcWhitney catalogs years back, they had extended gas tanks for them, up to 40 gallons, had a lot of things for the 70's Econolines, that company is long gone now. There are 2 for sale not far from me, I don't have it in me to build another, getting a wheelchair lift in one is a real pain, passenger seat has to go, no room for it, up side is its so much easier to remove the engine cover, mine went to Chattanooga to be parts for one there, the body damage was so severe it bound all the doors up, was tough to get out.
