My beds got the usual rusted wheel wells and its tranfering to the bottoms in front and back of the wheels. I plan to get some large body panels from lmc and fix it myself, then have it painted. However, the almost like c-channel that the bed sits on the frame is rotting out and my body lift block is almost pushing through it. I've been trying to find a used bed in good condition that has no rust, but thats been quite a task so far. If i cant find a bed, im going to replace the mounts with some square tubing thats rougly the same size, i just wasnt sure how to go about drilling for the mounting holes. Anybody have some tips or advice they could give me? Also if anybody knows of a place where i can get a used truck bed in decent condition, i would possibly go that route.
You could find one at a junk yard, but if they are anything like Cincinnati, they will charge $800 for a bed in good shape and you can find a non running truck that is still good for parts fr under $500 here.
Give us a local and maybe some one can help. Do a classified add and put post on your local state forum.
Depending on your area > I live in rust belt PA. My local yards no longer deal in these trucks to old and the one sold to them for parts are rust buckets. Do a search for southern /western body parts. I know of 5 my in PA area alone.
And if you can find a bed for $800 get it . The panels your time to put in body work to make nice . Will end up costing about the same . And the next cross member will rot next year. I buy 90's 4x4 trucks all time for under $1000 but they have body to match price.
I'm located in Williamsport for the time being, going to college. I permanent address is is western pa though. I'm about an hour or so away from Harry's U-Pull it in West hazelton, wasn't sure if they would have any good condition beds or not. Planned on taking a ride down one weekend since i need some other parts anyway. I found a place that sells used truck beds but they are located in ontario and want 900-1300 canadian. Hope this helps.
