Hello, I have seen other threads where the cause of leaking was debris in the cowl, but I think this is different. I believe the leak is coming from the seal inside the cab just under the fuse box (see pictures). This is occurring on both the passenger and driver side. I went up under the wheel well and took a picture and believe the leak is just on the other side of this ledge (see pictures). The water is coming from the bag between the hood and the cab.
To fix this, I believe the best route would be to put sealant on the ledge where it meets the cab, but I do not think I can get their due to the location, so my next best bet is to use sealant only in the cab.
Very interested in thoughts and recommendations on what sealant to use.
When we had our front fenders off for some other repairs, we noticed some cracks in the seam sealer at the joint you mention. You are right in that it acts as a ledge.
We decided to reseal it as a preventive measure. I can't remember if we used seam sealer or clear silicone.
We did not pick the old stuff out. Just cleaned it, made sure it was dry and slathered some over the top with our fingers.
Maybe plan to do it if and when you need to pull your fenders. Like to adjust door gaps other body work etc..
At the top back of hood where it comes up to the firewall/cowl there is a seal that runs between the two if that seal is missing then that would only compound the situation your reporting. Check and post back.
I am leaking at the same exact place - and as others said, it's a combination of failing seam sealer, and likely either lack of the cowl seal, or a bad cowl seal. I've traced mine by actually seeing the water water from the firewall down into where the seams are - drove me nuts until I observed it.
If you can get to it with a small wire brush to clean the loose crap, maybe hit it with rust converter stuff, then some brushable seam sealer. The rear hood seal is an important detail too, it should carry rain water off to the sides..
