Hi all. Still on the hunt for my next F250. Found a '21 F250 4x4 with the 6.2 and 6-spd with 55k miles. Super crew regular bed. Very basic XL truck and was originally a fleet/rental truck. Payload on it is 3300 lbs and it doesn't look like it was abused or used hard at all. Are there any downsides to buying used fleet trucks if they look like they've been taken care of and have verified service records? I can get this one for $39k which seems like a good deal for a Superduty with some factory warranty left. I'm seeing it as a potential blank canvas to do some cool stuff. Thoughts?
It's really is no different than buying used from one owner or off the lot. If it looks like it's been cared for inside chances are maybe proper routine maintenance was done. Any service records?
Not trucks, but in the 1960s and early 1970s I bought and sold quite a few fleet Ford station wagons and a couple of other brands. I was familiar with the fleet and they had all been maintained and none of them abused. Unless inspection uncovers a serious issue, and you like the truck, go for it. Depending on who drove it, you may find clutch issues.

There are a few service records on CarFax and it’s pretty clean inside. I’m not the biggest fan of the bench seat setup but the price is swaying my opinion.

It pulled strong on the test drive so I think the trans is good. I’m looking for one to pull a small 5th wheel. I like the increased payload of the lower trimmed trucks.

Just make sure you get a pre purchase inspection by a mechanic that YOU choose. if it checks then why not.
My Sterling Dump/Plow truck was a fleet truck. Honestly depends on how the guy that was assigned to it treated it. Also depends on how well they maintained it and did the services. My truck is a 2009 little rust considering its first life and the truck next to it was a 2014 International and the guy that ran it didn’t wash it after a salt event. It was completely rotten and the frame was rust jacked.
I looked at some f-450’s that had service bodies on them. Same experience one was immaculate and the other had 3” of mud packed under the flooring.
I would not hesitate. Probably was serviced regularly and not much to really worry about hurting that combo even if it was slightly neglected. Still has warranty left on the important stuff.
Having seen how employees treat the vehicles, I am going to say "I'm skeptical". I would prefer not to buy a fleet vehicle. Sure, the service is done but I have seen fleet vehicles that have never been taken to a car wash to get the road salt off, for example. I know someone who drives fleet vehicles for his/her job, told the boss about the service soon light and it has been that way for a few weeks. Does that count?
My last 4 vehicles were purchased as ex-fleet vehicles, no issues with any of them. Mechanically, they've all been sound and the history on them all came back clean.
I decided to pass. Can't get over the bench seat and as long as I'm hoping to keep the next one, I want the interior with bucket seats. Thanks to everyone for the responses.

You have gotten some good advice on here - as long as it looks clean and passes a once-over by a mechanic of your choosing, then you'll be okay with it.
There are a LOT of fleet vehicles out there that have been abused REALLY hard, but you can usually tell from the get-go on those.
