Curious stuff... that flex tube and filler cap is not stock. It was likely put on there to prevent blow-by from the crank case getting into the cab. Been there, done that.....
I have an engine torn apart that needs pistons and rings from excessive blow-by that filled the cab with blue smoke when I would stand on the pedal. I had to run with the windows down so I could see.
All 8 pistons destroyed and all compression rings broken. I ran high-compression heads and drove the snot out of it. That's the price you pay for performance. Fortunately, no damage to cylinder walls.

Normally that stand pipe has a cap that draws air INTO the crank case. The road draft tube that runs down beside the water pump is where compression gasses should escape from the crank case.

I seen one like this on a model A also.
