Question Transfer case compatibility

I posted this in the 2004-2008 F-150 forum but no one seems to know.
I looked around & didn't see what I was looking for so if this was covered, feel free to point to the thread.

For the 04-08 F-150, are the transfer cases all the same including the gearing?
Second, are the electronic & manual transfer cases interchangeable?

In other words, if I had a manual xfer case in my truck & all I could get is one that was out of an electronic shift truck, are they compatible?
Can you just take the electronic motor off & swap your manual stick over to it?

The "bigger picture" to this is I am considering a cab-swap & many of the models have electronic shift transfer cases where mine is manual.
The answers to the above questions would let me know if I have to take the transfer case with the cab. Assuming all the interior & wiring came over with the "new" cab.
I am sure I could just cut the floor for the shifter but I figured why do that if I could just swap the case or just the electronic shift motor over to my current xfer case.

usually you can not convert a manual t-case to esof.
but you can convert esof to manual if you can fabricate.
if you make a manual case truck esof, you will not have indicator lights.
i converted the 2014 ESOF F250 to manual. it was fairly easy. all i had to do was make an adaptor to connect the cable to the case shift lever.
i am not familiar with the 150 setup though.

Tom,
Thank you for confirming part of my dilemma. Maybe someone knows about the ratios, etc…. Basically, is everything else the same inside.

I have a truck with a manual xfer & I am considering a cab swap with a higher trim truck with ESOF (as you called it). If I do that there are 2 options (I think). Cut the new floor for the shifter or take the ESOF from the donor truck & put it under mine.

My floor pans & rockers need replacing & if I compare prices, I figure I can “upgrade” for less by getting a cab from a southern truck that doesn’t have my rust issues.

I would keep your manual shift transfer case. It's far better than the electric shift garbage.

agreed. i am not a fan of ESOF either. saw way too many trucks come into the shop with ESOF issues to ever own one.
the only reason the 14 had it was i bought the truck online out of texas for a steal and missed the ESOF until it got here.
worked for one year than broke and was converted to manual 4X4.
if i remember correctly the gear ratios in the t-case are the same. difference is the shifter setup. plus ESOF does not have a neutral position in the T-case like manual shift case does.

Thanks for the warning guys. I never had an e-shift transfer case, so never had one bite me in the back-side. If I do end up stripping the cab off a doner truck then I may take the ESOF case too so if it doesn’t work I still have the manual.

This will seem like a stupid “bonus” question, but does anyone know why the WeatherTech mats say there is no love for the manual shifter trucks?
Is it just in the way of the edge of the mats?

because 99% of the 150's are ESOF.
the problem is if you do not use it all the time, the shift motor goes bad.

In my experience they go bad either way. I avoid the electric shift systems if at all possible.
