I don't have pics but in 2021, my stepson bought a 2017 Screw 4x4 with the 5.0L and 6.5' bed. Gorgeous truck and as lady luck would have it, he got an impressive deal on it...no surprise there as he's a business to business sales person who has mastered the art of negotiation. As he was finalizing his deal, I urged him to buy an extended warranty in addition to the Ford CPO that came with it. He balked and stalled then agreed. $1800 for the warranty seemed kind of high at the time but I assured him it was fair.
Since buying the truck his warranty has been very busy paying for a new rear window due to the defroster failing.
Then the EPAS started to fail and ultimately did, replaced under warranty.
Then the IWE's started to fail and ultimately did, replaced under warranty
Most recently he's been experiencing severe transmission shudder which was diagnosed as a failing torque converter. So, it's being replaced with a brand new. I spoke with him about having the techs check out the rear of the engine while everything is down and change the oil and filter in the transmission before it all goes back together. He spoke with the service yesterday about these concerns and they're tracking but the funny thing is, changing the oil in the transmission isn't covered by the warranty. Why in the hell would anyone not want to replace the oil and filter while it's all apart? He's coming out of pocket to pay for anything that needs to be done in addition to the warranty work which is the smart move on his part. But I'm not understanding why the transmission oil isn't part of the warranty. Someone here smarter than I will have to explain.
Anyway, before the torque converter job, his warranty repairs have accumulated to $4500. I'm guessing that the job coming up will jump that another $1500 or more. His warranty has more than paid for itself.
I agree, buying an extended warranty on a used truck is a good idea. What I read and see people (especially on lease) do with them is insane! Some items used on a lease are ok, a truck is not one of them.
If the converter is failing, I would think the possibility of it scattering bits and pieces throughout the transmission would make an oil and filter change a no-brainer for Ford. Oh well, when they have to change the transmission under warranty because it ate it self alive then they'll learn.
As long as the transmission pan is off, might as well replace the lead frame. That is more often than not the cause of issues in the six speed auto. It’s not that expensive, and they are in there anyway.

I didn't think about that, I'll mention it. He is getting the fluid and filter changed at least.
