Question dual exaust question?

I want a dual exaust with that real deep mean sounding tone from my 302, what can I do on a budget while my truck is getting rebiult?

I have alrealdy bought some chrome tip 18" long and 4" outlet.
I was thinking of taking the converter off (no emmisions here).
can't afford headers right now.
Has anybody heard about cherry bomb mufflers?

I run dual exhaust Cherry bombs on my 1971 390. Sounds loud, but, okay. I have to turn the truck off at any kind of drive-in.

I do not know if it would sound as nice on a smallblock.

I took my converters off of my BIIs because I go off road a lot where setting a fire or getting stuck with a clogged one would not be good. Unless you are going deep off-road, I think you should leave the emissions equipment on.

If you take out your cat(s) you should get a bit mellower tone, but not what your wanting. I would say to pick up a couple of Flowmasters from your local parts store, should run about $60-80 each. I went with Afterburner mufflers, $40 each, it sounds like a monster when I get on it, but still quiet enuf to run through the drive-thru. I would check for O2 sensors after the cats, if there are...leave the cats on, if not...toss them( it will let your motor breath alittle better). Just my opinion..

I'm always off road every chance I get. I may change that though since I had a hill climbing incident earlier this week.

You say the bombs work good on the 390? They should work decent on the 302 then. I still might be able to get headers (I'll be looking at eBay) but most of my cash right now is going into getting my cab straightened back up & who the hell knows what I'm going to do with my bed.

I will check for o2 sensors around the cat area, if there are not any then I'm going to scrap them, if there are I'll just replace them.

I can get those Cherry Bombs for right around $20.00 each here & have friends that ran them on the 305's & 350's but did'nt know if they drilled them out or not.

I wonder what a couple of thrusts glass packs will sound like behind a 302.

IMO, ive always ran glass packs. Even on my 4 banger cavalier i had dual glass packs on it. Sounded good. Glass packs give it a great sound in my humble opinion. I also had a 40 series flowmaster on my 4 banger ranger, it gave it a deep tone and vibrated the entire cab. Also sounded good with the 5 speed. Im trying to figure out the same thing u are with the 302. What will make it sound deep and mean, so far im leaning towards glass packs, or a dual in dual out flow. Im also getting rid of my pointless cats.

I think I'm going try those damn Purple Hornies glass packs. I think they are made by flow master.

I am now leaning toward headers for my 302. I just saved about $300.00 today on a new cab so thats $300.00 I can spent on headers. (look out eBay, here I come).

Haven't made a decision about my cats yet. More then likely I'll toss em but not sure yet. Don't need thosa idiots lights flashing to get me going.

I need some help on deciding on the best exhaust system for my truck.I have an 86f150/302/v8/5.0 and I want it to be loud, mean, and a better performer.I have been thinking about a header system however I want to also be legal. Also, I want to know which is better glasspack or traditional mufflers.Any suggestions?

The best way to get some help it tell other what you want or are expecting your exaust to do.

Headers are almost always a plus & aggreed upon by many people. (increases HP)

Larger diameter pipe is also a plus.

Dual exaust is a plus.

Where arguments usally commence are with the cat system & mufflers.

I just want my truck to sound meaner, have dual exhaust and perform better and keep the cats so I can pass inspection.Headers are what I really want but How would that work with cats?

Header are just replacements for your stock exaust manifolds.

You can buy them emmision legal & have the piping run through to your cats & back like normal.
