The fuse is fine. The wire 'corroded' off right at the junction where 4 wires are joined.
Sounds like that will do the job nicely for now.
I wonder, did the fusible link wire fail due to working stress (work hardening?) over time? Or did the rubber/plastic outer layer fail and let it corrode internally over time?
Or maybe there was a slight overheating over time, causing it to actually do it's job and fail (sort of) but in a different spot. As far as I know, it's supposed to "blow" up at the starter relay area, in that short section just above the molded "flag" near the end of the wire.
You're probably right and it just got moisture/oxygen inside and corroded.
Darn piece of crap, only lasting 50 years or so!
