I really need some advise here!!! After a couple of months with the radiator out and the generator rebuilt I finally started the truck to check if the charging was okay. Now the truck is running hot!!!!! The radiator was leaking and was sent to a radiator shop and I just mounted new hoses, clamps and petcock. I had no problems with the temperature last year. Not even in the summer. I am trying to remember if I have done something to cause this, when working with the truck but cant think of anything? I really appreciate suggestions!!!!

Does it run hot while driving around, or are you just running it in the garage? Most likely thing to fail is the thermostats, which I think you replaced already? Any chance they might be in backwards?
I think I got the air out but it's difficult to be 100% certain! I let the truck cool down and then started it up once again. Now i noticed a significant difference in temperature between PS and DS upper pipes/hoses? Cooler on PS. Could it be PS thermostat? Is it possible to measure resistance on both of the temperature sensors?.Thanks!!!!!!!

I wrote my latest reply before I saw yours!!! I did not replace the thermostats because everything was working fine except for the leak. Maybe a mistake. Engine has been without antifreeze for a couple of months now so maybe a seized thermostat.????
The thermostat sending units are not ohms/resistance based. The two terminal sending unit is strictly an overheat open circuit type. The single terminal is what actually measures the temperature for display on the gauge via the King-Sealy Distometer communication style.
Being that you have a heat differential between the sides, I'll agree with the others that you should check the thermostat on the problematic side.
They are relatively standard footprint thermostats available in various temperature ranges (You don't need to order overseas from DC or other specialty early Ford vendors). As to which temperature to get? Opinions vary, but I run 160s in mine.
I drained the system again. My thermostat is 160 deg but the housing is in aluminium so I dont know for sure if I can use the same as for the cast iron housing. I call tomorrow for measurement and hope for the best. Diameter is 2.1" ( 53.5 mm) and height 1.5" (38 mm)
Thanks!!!!!
Was the thermostat installed with the side shown in the picture facing the outlet?
Does it fit in the recess of the outlet?
Looks like the usual thermostat. Try putting it in a kettle of water and seeing if it operates properly.
Yes, it was installed the right way and seams to fit in the recess. It opens in boiling water so I dont know if it opens to late or if I have another problem like water pump? I will order 2 thermostats with gaskets for the housing tomorrow and see what happens!!!
Thanks!!!!!!
