2019 xlt 2.7, throwing P139A and P139C. Suspecting DPFE sensor. I think it's right up on top of the motor, see pic. Can clear the code and it's good for a day or so and back. Any thoughts? Do I have the right component pictured? Thanks.
Look closely, you likely will find the hose is blown off.
Good luck.
Well, I can see that those two hoses at least are intact, if in fact this is the component in question. Are you suggesting there are others to look for? I have been over the engine compartment looking for/at components to get to the conclusion I came to. Where else would you suggest?
Hope you found the pipe by now.
It has a valve that opens to let exhaust back into the intake for emissions reduction.
When that valve opens and the pipe is off, has a hole etc, It will make a noise of escaping exhaust.
The metal pipe is about 8 inches long, has an oval flange on both ends. Has two bolts and gasket on each end.
Good luck.
Update: This problem "went away" after a week or so, and has not resurfaced until yesterday in the blinding rain and deep flooding here in SW Florida. Have no idea if the weather could affect the issue, nor do I remember if it was during a rainy period back in January. Obviously if there is a harness issue somewhere that's getting wet, that WOULD be weather related.
I've seen this post: https://www.f150forum.com/f118/18-2-...ailure-521666/
but this engine is quiet as can be, so I'm not sure it's the problem. I can put my hand on the pipe indicated above, and it's intact, no sound or feel of leak at the exhaust manifold and I can see the end where it attaches to the egr cooler. Most of the failures in the above post have been at much higher mileage (mine at 40k) which I know means nothing really.
I have the same 3 codes P044C P139A P139C. The two 139 codes are apparently ignition related, which goes along with the symptoms, herkyjerky at low throttle in the middle of the gear range (4-5). Last time around I found references to the DPFE valve, in the top pic, but now the 044 code points only to egr. I'm confused! Just cleared the code, my world is drying out, will see how it drives today!

Reason: spelling!
Likely not a chewed wire unless the truck isn't used often. More likely a poor connection, water intrusion into a plug somewhere because the seal has broken down.
I hope you're right. Codes are back, just the 139A and C, no egr code. Occasional misfire under load in the middle gears. I'll keep chasing, thank you.
Why are you saying the P 139A and C are not EGR codes?
You must include the A & C in the lookup or you get the wrong code and description that will mislead you..
They are EGR codes..
You need to look up for these Ford codes and Cause descriptions that may convince you of that fact.
Good luck.
I was wrong, They are clearly egr related codes, which leads back to the dpfe being an issue. I don't know why my previous searches led me in a different direction. Thank you. Using DTCDecode this time, gives the best description I've found so far. EGR tube comes from exh manifold to a small cooler then up to the valve, this is upstream. DPFE straddles the the valve and the downstream outlet pipe and senses pressure differential to determine blockage/open in either direction when egr closed. I think I understand the system. Will start at the valve and dpfe and check connections. Onward.
Well, the codes are piling up. In addition to P139A and C, there are now P044C and D (more egr), and P2198 and P2BF0, O2 sensor and fuel map related. Hard to tell what is being caused by something else. Haven't cleared in a few days, this morning I drove it all over town without the slightest hiccup...
A look at all the code descriptions for something common shows a wire harness possibility.
EGR Sensor, Ox Sensor bank, fuel control B too lean.
System is getting an indication an EGR hose is off or plugged.... Code 139 a & c.
You need to run with this kind if fault area that is most common.
It takes analysis of the code descriptions to see this due to an inter relationship detected by different parts of the system that sets their related codes, as a >reaction< to the root cause.
Good luck.
