Hi, I am new here and I am very pleased to find these many Excursion owners posting. My Excursion is a 2001 V10 Ltd. I'm planning to make few camping trips this year. Anybody experienced in camping in Excursion? I am interested in knowing what is a good list of equipments to have in order to have comfortable camping trip in Excursion. Any suggestion and comment will be appreciated. :-X23
Thanks for the reply. I should have phrased my questions better. The kind of camping my wife and I do are mostly in camp grounds. When we go by ourselves we usually use our motor home. So you can say that we like to camp comfortablly The kind of trips I was thinking to use the Excursion is when I am already towing something, such as a boat or a horse trailer. I looked for SUV tents but have found nothing. It would be nice if a tent (say 8'x8') can be hooked to the back of the Excursion then I'd have a sheltered tent area and can use the Excursion for sleeping. Since we've never done it I would like to hear what the other campers experiences (any type of camping) are and how they do it. Or if anybody know of other web sites specialize in this sort of activities.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-Mar-02 AT 12:15 PM (EST)]I think this place has some cool stuff: http://www.loftyshelters.com
This stuff is neat too: http://www.xocom.com/ss/index.html
Two things I can think of for sure...
An inflatable bed that fits in the X
Side-window visors (aka ventvisor) so you can crack the windows when it's raining and not get wet.
I know what you need!!

My parents have one like these (the 2 first pics) since a couple years (10 or so), and it is the best thing we ever bought. It folds down the height of a roof rack (even less), and when you want to stop....crank it up (15 seconds), and you have a real comfy bed.
Highly recomended!
Now that is a cool idea! I've never seen that style of tent for a vehicle other then the type for the bed of a pick-up truck. I like the last picture with the two tents perched side-by-side.
You could make a condo size tent with indoor plumbing for the top of an Excursion.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 11-Apr-02 AT 06:52 PM (EST)]Like I said, my family had (and still has) one just like the one in the first pic. Thanks to this thing, we (parents, me (I was younger, like 12-16yo), and my sister she was 6-10yo) have traveled in one Europea sized car (a Toyota LJ73 that we logged 400 000 km on!). We went in Italy, Scotland, Corsica -from France-, and almost to Iceland (the 2 week car journey + 2 weeks of boat turned us around).and Gaspesia -From Montreal, Quebec-. It is now 10 years old, and still is fine. It is one awesome setup. You can stop anywhere, and as long as the car is level, you can have a good night.
We will most likely put it on the next car (Expedition...)
Thanks for the pics. They look really cute and prctical for crank up and rest Our objective is to have tent space and the option of using the back of the X space in case of rainny days out in the camp ground. After looking at many alternatives we bought a Coleman cabin tent. This tent has two doors (opennings), two room sleeping space and a sheltered screen room. We will face the screen room against the back of my X for in and out while the sleeping room's door opens in the different direction. Thanks again for all the help.
