Some questions

So I have had the 2001 Excursion Limited for a couple weeks and I have searched these boards, but can't seem to find the answer to a couple questions.

1) How do I know what rear-end I have? I looked at what I think is a tag on the "pumpkin" that says, as best I can tell, 4l3. Is this 4.3LS, 4.3 open diff., or am I looking at the wrong thing? Is there a VIN decoder to tell me exactly what all I have?

2) Looking through the owner's manual I noticed a card from Jet Performance Products about taking out a performance chip before having diagnostic service work done. I read a little about Jet on the chip forum and from most people's perspective it is not a good product. Any opinions? I am thinking why mess with something that ain't broke.

3) I am at 27,000 or so miles. Is the extended service plan a good idea? I anticipate ~15,000-20,000 annually.

Again, I have tried to search for the answer to these, but haven't been too successful. Thanks for any imput.

Jim

More than likely you have 4.30's with a limited slip.
