HELP...can't get compressor wheel off...

I'm doing several things to both trucks and have another thread about it. The compressor wheel came loose as expected on the turbo off the Excursion. I'm trying to get the compressor wheel loose on the turbo off my F350. I am putting a pair of vice grips on the turbine wheel, but they pop off when I apply too much pressure on the compressor wheel...yes I know it's regular right hand threads since I was able to get the other one off. I've tried to apply a little heat to the front of the wheel where the threads are, though it was with a Bic lighter. I know I could grind a slot into the turbine wheel to allow me to get a better hold of it, but I'm trying to just swap the compressor wheel on this one...or, I could probably cut into the area I heated very carefully. I don't have an impact gun, but if that may work I'll locate one...so looking for possibly another method someone has used to get this wheel free...

Does it not have a hex head on it for an 18mm socket?

I would probably try more (real) heat and a better set of vise grips. But I’ve only done it a couple times and didn’t have any issues to speak of so I’m not much help.

The vice grips are new...I tried another set in the tool box prior which weren't working and decided to just purchase a new set. I may go tomorrow and get a 1/2" air impact wrench capable of 585 ft. lbs....I just hate to put that pressure on the shaft. I'll also see if I can find someway to put some real heat onto the threaded part of that wheel...

Well who's genius idea was that? I'm sure more than one person would like to give him a swift kick in his Dick's Sporting Goods.

A small propane torch and a ir gun would probably help a bunch. You may also try securing the turbo so you can pop or slap the wrench if that makes sense. A jarring action is what I mean, oh and don't forget some lube. Everything in life is better with the proper amount of lubrication.

I've tried smacking the sachet with a hammer in an attempt to pop it loose, but the vice grips just won't hold enough pressure. I'm going to soak it with some penetrating fluid tonight...

Both mine actually have a flat spot in it for balancing purposes, but this one is tapered...maybe I'll try and not focus on gripping the tapered notch tomorrow and see it that helps...

It's not a question of where he grips it.

I finally had success today. The penetrating solution didn't help over night so I went and bought this little butane torch to put some heat on the nose of the compressor wheel. This one will go in the tool box as I can see alot of uses for it...soldering, heat shrink, and freeing up difficult bolts...see below picture of it. In applying heat a couple times for about 45 seconds or so, she finally submitted to the 1/2" break over bar and a 16mm 6 sided socket with vice grips on the flat spot of the turbine outer then stopped by a monkey wrench on it going to a sold brick. This wheel was on much much tighter than the one off the other turbo that came off the Excursion.
