Does a T18 have any ventelation for the case. My main question is how water tight is it. how deep can you submerge the tranny before it takes on water? I dont plan on taking it through any rivers but I do come across alot of flooded areas in the summer seasons and was curious as to any worries I should have. Ive always had automatics which have a breather on top of the main body.
It has a small breather on the top, maybe 2 inches under the level of the hump. Probably a little above the level of the floor. Its on the top plate, into which the shifter fits. You could probably remove the breather and run a length of hose with a loop up into the cab.
You can also get water into the t-18 via the shifter arm -- as in, if a vehicle with out a window or cab sits in the rain, the water will track down the shift arm, arrive at the ball cover and seep into the tranny. I managed to accumulate about a quart of water in mine that way, when it was sitting outside during a frame up restoration!!
