A friend of mine is building a mud bog truck out of a 79 F350. He is in the process of building a bulletproof 460, and pretty soon he is going to need a tranny, and he wants to have a standard. The truck came with a T18 in it, and I was wonderin how much power can a T18 take, and are there any rebuild kits to make it even stronger? If the T18 can handle 600 horses or so and 44 or maybe even 53 in swampers and Rockwell axles, then what tranny should he use?
From what I understand, the T-18 is a flat monster of a tranny. I don't know how much HP/Torque it can handle, but I would honestly think you'll be ok.
You might want your friend to reconsider to a C6, we're also building a Mud Bog truck, every piece of advice we've got has said to use the auto trany, as they've never seen a manual win a race. I'm sure the tranny can take it, but if he wants to win, he may want to reconsider...just MHO
Well, my buddy wants to stick with the man plan, since he doesn't plan to run in competions. I told him that I was pretty sure the T18 could handle whatever he dished out to it, since I've never met a single person that has had a problem with a T18 (except for one guy, his T18 locked up because he was rock racing and cracked his case, and all of the oil came out, and he kept runnin it until it locked up)
I dunno why a manual can't win a race, since when I go muddin with my friends, I can easly outdo them with my manual. I like being able to set what gear I'm in and it stay there, so when I need power the most, I have it, unlike it seems an automatic shifts everytime when you need power.
