Appears that way to me, 1400 miles. Was checking out front axle, after I saw the thread on the "new" 14 bolt front,
and all of a sudden noticed this oil bath.
so you are cool with Ford for churning out trucks with shocks that blow at 1400 miles? If that makes me a hater, so be it. I'm proud to be a hater for expecting OEM shocks to last longer than a few k miles. LOL.

I don’t believe Ford makes those shocks. Everything can fail and with the millions of shocks on the road the odds are VERY low for a failure and it happens. But you being so negative about Ford,Yes you are a hater.

Ford sourced it from the cheapest bidder and approved it for use. They even tried to pretend their FX4 shocks were "Rancho" shocks by painting them to Rancho colors for a few years, now they stopped pretending al together by calling it "offroad tuned", all that paint must eat into their margins. In general Ford's OEM shocks are well known to blow early in the trucks' life, ask around.
I am a proud hater for wanting Ford to do better, better than being a blind fanboy who thinks his favorite brand can do no wrong.
Wait, I was being generous with the 30 dollar figure, someone else figured out 6 years ago it was cheaper even after all this inflation it must be less than 30 a piece.
What he said I read these shocks cost 8.00 a piece so they are crap. The FX4 are mostly the same just painted white with stickers on them. Come on Ford these are 80k trucks!
I have had luck with my dealer replacing them when under 12k miles but after that you are on your own. I would let ford replace them and I have had luck with my dealer letting me provide the shocks and they charge the labor back to Ford. Good luck!

I don't think he is too off base, and far from alone with his opinion on OE shocks. They are cheap shocks. Even the special "Tremor" shocks have been known to have early failures. Not sure why anyone would feel the need to defend Ford and their use of a cheap OE shock.
Some of us have accepted the fact that not all the OE parts are of good quality, so we go aftermarket and move on.
Mine began leaking (both rears) at 4800 miles on my '17, At 5k miles I put on after market shocks...I now have 71k miles on my truck with the same aftermarket shocks. With Fords reputation hanging at times, I would think they would have addressed this flaw by now, they have been making trucks for a long long time and at the premium price we pay for these rigs is crazy. Shocks should not be an issue, especially for stock performance.
Well, the trucks could come with Fox or Bilstein shocks but that would add another thousand bucks to the final cost. Better to just go into a new truck knowing that some things on the truck are junk and need replaced soon after purchase. My stock shocks made it about a thousand miles before they found their way to a trash can.
That’s my point. Ford would get a deal to use them and then charge the customer way more than just buying them on their own. Similar to the winch, cost twice what it should.
