Hello Just picked up a 1979 LTL9000 Vin A90AVFA8445. It has an 8v92T 15 spd. I was hoping to get more info on the build of it axles etc. I forgot to take pic of the door tag.

A90 = Special Order Vehicle. (Shows as LT900 diesel / LTL9000 in the '78 shop manual)

A = Special Order Detroit engine, not specified as to model

V = Kentucky Truck Plant

FA8445 = 1979 numerical series, possibly early '79 production--I don't have that breakdown.

174 = 174 inch wheelbase

No color code.*

A900 = LT900 diesel, 44,800 GVWR*, Special Order Vehicle (no LTL in the '73-'79 MPC but this shows as LTL900 Domestic Special Order in the '78 shop manual)

QM8 = I do not have upholstery or seat info, appears to be standard cab without butterfly hood.

No transmission code and no rear axle code.*

S = Rockwell (Timken) model FH-901 front axle, 16,000 lbs capacity, with power steering

51100 = 51,100 lbs GVWR*

B7 = Ford of Canada, Pacific (Ford) District Sales Office
0480 = Special Order Number

* These items were probably included in the special order. Since the whole truck is a special order anyway, these items were not regular production items for this series. Paint, transmission and axles are regularly seen as special order items. One result here is the higher GVWR than the "normal" model has.


If you get the door tag we might get more info.

 

 

See above, no soap on axle info as it is not on the warranty plate.

The axles should have tags riveted to them or info cast or stamped into them.
