Hello all . I have a 92 F-250 with 460 auto . It starts and runs great when you first start cold . But after driving it up normal operating temperature and you park it for 20 minutes, it will start and die , start and die . It won’t stay running unless I put my foot on the pedal for a minute then it will idle but not as smooth as when it the engine is cold . It also make a humming sound, like the fuel pump . It is worse in the hotter weather. I have no CEL or codes . I have replaced , map sensor, ignition module, fuel pressure regulator ,idle air control valve, and ECM . Any help would be appreciated.
What do you mean no CEL or codes? Does the light not come on when you turn the key to RUN? You don’t get any codes? Not even the system pass code 11 or 111?
Did you test any of those parts or are you throwing your wallet at it hoping to get lucky? To me it sounds like it could be running rich when the engine is warm. Have you tested the resistance of the coolant temp sensor when the engine is cold and when up to temperature?
Couple of things
No codes or light makes me think you have a fuel system problem
Did you test the fuel pressure?
Test the pressure and do a volume test
Constant run the fuel pump should fill up a 16 oz Coke bottle in less than 10 seconds
Your 92 you can make the pump run easily from the self test connector with a jumper wire
I would also test the operation of the EGR valve and listen for the thump it makes when the valve closes
I use a hand held vacuum pump for that test (saves you from pulling the valve in some cases to verify it is not hanging up)
